Warzone will be renamed to War.app

Following the settlement with Activision, Warzone now has a new name!

Starting with the next update, Warzone will be known as War.app.

Warzone’s official URL is changing from www.warzone.com to simply war.app. For now, warzone.com links will redirect to the new name, but it’s important that web players update their links to the game, since at some point in 2027 this redirect will stop working.

The name change will go live with the update 6.00.0, which will arrive to web users in the coming days and mobile users in the coming weeks.

Everything else about the game stays the same.

  • Your Warzone account and email/password will still work just as they have.
  • All of your progress and on-going games will stay just as they were.
  • Mobile users do not need to download a new app. The app will stay in the same location on your device and the icon won’t change. Just the name displayed below the icon will change.
  • If you stream the game on twitch after 6.00 is live, you should update the category from Warzone to war.app to ensure your twitch streams continue to be broadcasted on the website. All twitch streamers in the new war.app category will be shown by default, unlike before where streamers had to be approved to avoid conflicts with streamers streaming in the wrong category.

I realize name changes can be disruptive and polarizing. I apologize for any inconveniences caused, but changing the name away from Warzone was necessary. I fully intend for War.app to be the “forever” name so that we never have to go through this again.

I have many plans for the game that were on hold until the name change, so stay tuned for future updates. 2026 will truly be a pivotal year!

    1. Indeed we do, though there is a couple of other posts here about that, including that Warzone will be issuing a full refund to their GoFundMe supporters…
Neither Activision nor the Court would seem to have had a dog in that fight, lawyers do like to get paid, and it was certainly not a brief legal fight, so I have a cookie tin that says that Activision was somehow motivated to pay Fizzer’s legal fees, or most of them…
Ethically, and probably legally, Fizzer could not keep both pots of gold, so would have taken theirs and did the refund thing.
I’m glad that Fizzer has gotten this, both for himself and the game.
I still miss the Warlight name, but it’s okay…
      but my captcha is Warlight…

      1. I definitely think “Warlight” is a better name than “War.app”, and would’ve preferred a move back to that, but oh well. The name of the game is not that important in the grand scheme of things.

  1. Will warlight.net redirect to war.app (and continue to do so after the warzone.com redirect stops)?

  2. War, or War.app. Yeah I guess that works but just like with Warzone the names War or War.app don’t look very unique and doesn’t tell us much about what type of game this is.

“Hi, what do you play?” Neither War, War.app or Warzone feels great to me. Could be anything.

A name competition among the playerbase had been very cool but I guess this is it now. It’s not terrible, it works. But it’s a bit confusing. How do you say it? Simply War? War dot app? War app?

The answer to “Hi, what do you play?” War?, War dot app? None of them seems ideal. And just like with Warzone, I feel the need to explain afterwards it’s a strategy game, a bit similar to Risk but way better.

I love the game but not the name. The name is just ok.

    1. I just comment with “an online version of the risk board game”.
That’s what people know and can immidiately identify and imagine.
And yes, that may be a tad too much on the trademark problem side, but I am a private person and I do not use “risk” in a (for me) commercial context, but only to identify the type of product.

  3. Is there a reason that you couldn’t go back to Warlight? It’s unique, well loved, flows well. Its already what a lot of players call the game.

    1. It definitely seems like a more unique and better sounding name than war.app, which to my ears at least sounds kinda weird and clunky, as well as a bit generic.

  4. Greetings and Salutations fellow members!

    Indeed!
Best ‘Warlight’ can be used which captivates the gamers and audience as it does sound unique but whatever Fizzer sees best for warzone/warlight/war.app (soon to be changed to) members and community.

We, the gamers and Warlight / Warzone / War.App wish the best for all members and community to keep rising and thriving even in harsh times.

    We go on forward!

    !! AVE !!

    All the best, Fizzer!!

    Sincerely,
    Tadashi

  5. Wtf, cod should be paying you for stealing the name.
This is very disappointing especially since they canceled mobile.

I can’t support warlight anyone sadly. You should have went to trial, they stole the name and you gave jt away.

Release all the court paperwork so we can read it ourselves

  6. “Warlight” is a core memory. “War.App” is the scary monster that sleeps under my bed at night. If there is any possiblility let’s go back to warlight! Heck even the Captcha I had to enter has “warlight” as part of the code.
