Hey guys,

recently, there's been lots of complaining about the lack of new, innovative templates. It's so bad, that even CL features some questionable templates for the ongoing season. We gotta do something about it.

Therefore, I decided to host a template competition.

The rules:

- Has to be a 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 template
- Has to be a strategic template (no definition needed, see templates on MTL for reference http://md-ladder.cloudapp.net/ )
- No Mods
- 1 army stands guard!
- Maps that already have strategic templates built on them can be reused, but a (very) different approach is necessary
- No copying settings from one template on just another map
- Up to 2 entries are allowed

The prize:

1500 coins for 1st place
1000 coins for 2nd place
500 coins for 3rd place

... and your template will be used on MTL or seasonal in the future eventually.

I will rate the templates from 1 to 10 and decide the rankings. For this, I will consider the opinions of other strategic players too.

You can submit your template like this:

Template name: French Brawl
Type: 1v1
Special settings: Light fog, Extra armies per territory
Example game: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=24315678

Deadline is November 20th. Good luck

So what makes a template strategic? What about templates that have potential but you straight up deny it's strategic because it's not `mainstream` across the community? There should be a limit of what is and isn't considered strat just because it's not well-established. Surely there's someone out there who likes to innovate new strat templates...

Hi Name,

AI mentions the word innovation within 3 lines, the MDL reference is simply to reinforce that the template has to reach a criteria that it's fit to be played in a competition, meaning its a playable template that truly rewards good strategic moves.

Copycats reduce chances of winning, innovation likely increases chances of winning.

For example, French Brawl won a template contest in the past but if I was to enter a template very similar like last seasons seasonal template, it's likely to not win.

Take what you wish from this logic.

Thanks

Yes, thank you Yaxvi. I can fully agree to what's been said.

I did not want to define what strategic is, because it's not easy. Let's just say that anything that is not obviously nonstrategic will be looked at.
Let me give you some hints, though:

- The game should be finished in a reasonable amount of turns
- Stalemate situations (f.e. 0 vs 0 income) should not happen in 99%+ of games.
- There are a couple of things that did not work well on strategic templates in the past or only on a few of them: Emergency blockade cards, Airlift cards, Bomb cards, diplomacy card, Auto distribution, army cap, commerce, changed kill rates, weird fog settings. For these to work you would need a clear concept. However, if someone makes them work it will give a boost due to it being an innovation then. So you see I don't exclude any of these settings.
- Innovations do not have to feature those crazy things. If someone simply comes up with a new concept of how the base income, bonus values, starting armies etc. work together that can also be innovative.

I'll post my favorite 2v2 template! (made by me)
Send me a WZ mail if you want to do a match on this template!

Template name: Macedonia 2v2 Dense Fog
Type: 2v2
Special settings: dense fog, "1.5 gift cards", 7 wastelands
Example games:
https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=22112034 - even match up to turn 16.
https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=22491317 - even match up to turn 12 or so.

Explanations:
"1.5 gift cards"
1.5 gift cards means that you start with 2 gift cards, but you must discard 1 card on turn one, unless you spend atleast 1 gift cards.
In some matches it's good to discard a gift card on turn 1, in others you might want to gift one or two territories within the team.
You don't get any card pieces for capturing.

7 wastelands
The wastelands are meant to shift the strategy somewhat for every match. There are 8 bigger bonuses around the map that don't overlap with each other. 7 wastelands means that minimum one of these will not have a wasteland in it.

General
Even though the template uses dense fog, you can very often find out where most of the enemy units are. Especially if they do a lot of revealing moves.

Some matches are more or less decided after picks. So spend some time thinking about your picks!

I don't quite see the point. Just make sure the template is perfect already before you submit it. We are not in a hurry, you got almost a month for testing etc.
