I also agree that team chat should be selected by default when clicking "chat" in a team game. 90% of the chat will happen to the team, and maybe the "GG", less than 10% of the time, will be in the public chat

Like other posters I regularly have problems with public vs team chat. Regularly, especially in realtime games when I am in a hurry, I post messages to teammates to public chat.

A while back an update changed the colors of the public and team chats to blue and green, which helps some. But in realtime games I am still often rushed and make errors.

Oilspotter's idea, seconded by ViralGoat, of setting the default to team chat would be a great solution. It would be great if you made this change.

I am referring to the mobile Unity app.

"Play alone or with friends" => "Play on your own or with friends"

Questions

a) Why do maps get redownloaded all the time?
It feels like this happens every second time I open a game.

b) Why is Unity so ressource hungry? And is there a way to optimize this?
I just installed it on a new machine and it simply goes crazy on CPU even if nothing is happening, thus turning on the fan. Quite annoying.

bugs

If you login with another acc you still get that first accounts games at first sight and need to refresh inorder to get your second accounts games.
It used also to be like this if you go back from a game that you get 1st acc games again, I havent retried this.

^you could go into the settings and reduce the target FPS from 60 (default) to 30 to reduce CPU usage. To futher decrease CPU, you could upgrade your device's CPU and GPU.

On mobile the browser is absolutely unusable. I need 3 clicks to reach my multiplayer games, i can't zoom out on the dashboard which makes me scroll down every old blog post and highlighted forum thread. The app brings many cool new features, but the browser is a huge downgrade.

Hey Fizzer,
congratulations to the (as far as i can see till now) succesfull launch of warzone.
The interface looks realy awesome and i cant wait for the day i have time to test the tons of mods you implemented ;)

Any breakthrough at the point of "dislocated" territories? I have seen a few in the games i play at this time :/
Last time you suspected different layers in unity because 1 layer can only involve a limited number of objekts (territories).
This dislocations make map-making realy dificult atm :(

greetings
Sverdsønn

PS:
Could it be possible to implement a "show community levels on this map" option where you can exame the map details?

This is now done in the final release! Thanks for the suggestion.

Why do maps get redownloaded all the time?

The unity app doesn't cache maps in the same way that the old app did, so you may see some re-downloading. Sorry about that, I hope to fix this in the future.

I just installed it on a new machine and it simply goes crazy on CPU even if nothing is happening

Hmm, that shouldn't happen. If you go to Settings and reduce the target framerate, does that help?

If you login with another acc you still get that first accounts games at first sight and need to refresh inorder to get your second accounts games.

This should be fixed now.

There's a feature coming in a new version of Unity that will allow me to solve this. So there's hope for this getting fixed in the future.

It shouldn't. But I have seen an issue before where the WebGL version loses its settings on every refresh, so maybe that's what you're running into. Every time I've seen this, restarting the browser fixed the problem. Can you try re-starting your browser?

Having just tried the browser version on two alts, I will say that setting target framerate down is a must. Best is just silly,as it seems browsers gets laggy then, max should be 60. Through, unless you watch turn 30 is fine. Myself I use 30.

I think you should change the standard to 60 fps at least Fizzer. Having it at 'Best' when you open it seems to do more harm then good.

EDIT: also, I think the toast for achievements and points should stay up ~4 seconds longer at least. Defently when you get many at one time, they go away to quick

On iOS and Android, it defaults to 30. In the standalone versions, it defaults to 60. On WebGL it defaults to best based on Unity's recommendation, this is what they say about it:

On WebGL the default value lets the browser choose the frame rate to match its render loop timing which generally produces the smoothest results.

Hm, well for Edge that seems to be Best. Which basically leaves Edge (unresponsive). Edge is still a bit laggy after setting FPS to 30. Bet this is Edge being not the best browser at work here. For the other browsers I have tried Unity is faster the Flash.

There's a link in the first post for Windows/Mac/Linux downloads. But those are still member-only, since they don't have ads.

Why are the 32 bit versions the ones you are linking to by default?

Virtually no one uses a 32 bit OS. The 64 bit is faster, more responsive, and isn't going to run out of memory on big maps.

Because it runs on every computer. The 64 bit version only runs on 64 bit versions of Windows, the 32 bit version runs on both.

The 64 bit is faster, more responsive, and isn't going to run out of memory on big maps.

Based on my tests, the 32 and 64 bit versions run at the exact same speed. Do you see a speed difference?

Have you actually had the 32 bit version run out of memory? I've never heard of anyone hitting the 2gb memory limit in the 32 bit version of the app. If you have, I'd love to hear what you're doing.

You've had people report running out of memory before, it's how I knew there was a 64 bit version - you recommended it to them at the time as a fix to their issue.

I'm aware that 64 bit versions of programs do not run on 32 bit OS's, that's fine, no one uses 32 bit OS's. The last OS that was commonly shipped in a 32 bit variant was XP.
It's also not hard to list both 64 and 32 bit versions.

@Nauz: I think this StackOverflow post might counter some of your reasoning: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/41497783/how-common-are-32-bit-windows-installations-as-of-now

To quote:

Unless your application really needs more than 2GiB of memory space, or gains a significant benefit from the new and faster x64 operations, there's no need to move away from building for 32-bit x86, given x64's 100% backwards-compatibility
...

If you're writing games then take a look at the regularly-updated Steam Hardware Survey - http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/ - which (as of 2017-01-05) reports 87.6% of users are running a 64-bit build of Windows - giving only 12.4% on 32-bit Windows, though it doesn't say what percentage of 32-bit Windows users are actually running on x64-capable hardware. But gamers on Steam tend to be in the "computer enthusiast" segment, who will run more recent hardware so usage of 64-bit hardware and OS installs will not be representative of all computer users everywhere.
...

The percentage of users on 64-bit OS systems will also differ geographically - I expect a higher proportion of 32-bit OS users in "emerging markets" that would have a wider use of older (especially imported second-hand) machines than in more developed economies.

It makes sense for 32-bit to be the default distribution.

There was a memory leak bug. It's since been fixed, so it shouldn't happen again.

The last OS that was commonly shipped in a 32 bit variant was XP.

No way, all versions of Windows even up through Windows 10 support 32 bit versions. It's pretty common on any PC that ships with less than 4gb of ram.

no one uses 32 bit OS's

Source? I haven't seen any stats on this, but I would suspect that at least 15% of Windows PCs are still running a 32 bit OS.

Performance Updates by me

Unity Desktop Client is great, the best way to play the game imo.
Unity Mobile Client continues to be impossible for me to use, but my phone is currently really bad (dropped my old phone, now relying on a $50 one.
Chrome runs terrible. Constant lag for me.
Opera runs flawlessly.
About to try Firefox and Edge
