Votes by members and high level player count more than low level non-members. This helps ensure that players can’t use alts to artificially increase their votes. This also gives another benefit to being high level, as every level you gain increases the amount of voting power you have, and there’s no limit.

Curious; what's the formula for the voting power? How much does membership increase on that?

Maybe, but only if things like "a downvoting war with neo-Nazis" happen. Grow up please.

Well said, Ben. This needs to be pinned up and put somewhere REALLY visible in the WarLight forums. If people just have their personal opinion of the poster affect what they consider quality, they're really only weakening the sense of community of a game with little to no sense of community. Rushed decision, at best. Implementation could've been worked better to avoid it.

@Benjamin Felidae has no intention to dominate the OT forum. In fact we will post less. Instead we will start a total war against the neo-Nazis on this site, downvoting every single of their Nazi posts. One reason Felidae posts existed is that we wanted to overshadow Nazis. Now we will just downvote each and every Nazi post so that Nazism disappears from Warlight.

To be fair, as someone who thinks the general mentality of "I don't like this post, it shouldn't exist", I'm not even downvoting classic trolls/obnoxious people such as Squiggles. As for you, Tabby, if you just keep instigating people into downvoting stuff you don't like (and having the bunch of alts that is Felidae do the same), you really need to grow up.

Agreed the only thing that should be hidden is blatant trolling and spamming, not "trolling" - political viewpoints so extreme that they shouldn't even be considered.

No respectably delivered viewpoint (i.e. not spammed, trolled, etc.) is too extreme to consider.

The first part, +1 entirely. Sometimes people just have mindsets that, to someone else, sound completely deranged and bad. But honestly, as long as the person is actually TRYING to explain his views, and not flat out spamming (Tabby/Chatul) or trolling (Karl/Jim) in the proccess, there's no real reason to prevent it.

People who oftentimes discuss politics - while not being aggressive or spammy while doing so - shouldn't be downvoted blindly. A decent example is MGSB or TeamGuns, they're often blabbering stuff I don't agree with, but they'll have my upvote everytime regardless because they discuss close enough from civilizedly.

My only suggestion is to reduce the like and dislike button they seem uncomfortably huge but I like the concept and idea.

I think they're not obstructing much in the terms of aesthetics, really. Their size seems on point for me.

Best update, ever. Period. I never really understood why doublelinks just didn't get embedded/clickable.

I think this won't work.

The forums, especially the Off-Topic, are wild places. They're where we exchange ideas, strategies, opinions, memes, conspiracy theories, and jokes.
In a time where we have seemingly limitless ways to communicate, stuff like this will stifle our free speech.

Everyone, from the alt of a banned troll to a coder for a new level has the right to say what they want. If you don't like what you see, ignore it. It's simple.

Also, you could just blacklist people you don't like, rather than downvote each and every one of their posts. And give everyone the right to post images. As long as it's not something illegal (child porn, drugs, crimes, etc.), there's no harm.

How many downvotes does it take to hide a post? Do upvotes cancel out downvotes? What will happen to a controversial post with polarized reception such as 100 upvotes plus 100 downvotes?

There should be stats on profiles about how many hidden and un-hidden posts they have made.

This is now getting closer to redit

Reddit uses votes to rank the order threads and comments appear. Hiding them like this is awful.

Just like reddit, people will use the downvote button primarily as an 'i disagree' or 'i don't like you' button. You can see that happening in this thread.

Welcome to the Warlight Echo Chamber I guess. Going to be hilarious seeing politics threads with 100% of comments hidden.

(I predict it will take less than 15 minutes for this comment to become hidden.)

Shouldn't, like instead hiding a thread, can they just be pushed down lower in the list?

People want to debate and people don't want that. So if the down voter wants to hate then the thread will be lower down the lis, so the ongoing debater can continue chatting.

Plus, there are people who are gonna abuse it and use it as a tool to publicly much certain people, regardless if the post is relevant to the topic or not.

Also, you could just blacklist people you don't like, rather than downvote each and every one of their posts. And give everyone the right to post images. As long as it's not something illegal (child porn, drugs, crimes, etc.), there's no harm.

A successful idea if moderation is more heavily involved in dealing with CP, drugs pics etc.

reddit is also always hiding downvoted comments

You must be a noob ;) Turn off the downvote threshold in settings.

I have yet to find post that is hidden but should not be.

Actually in this thread there is a lot of stuff hidden that should be but I don't see why these should:

Do I get banned for disliking Fizzer made threads?

Great, one of my posts already got removed.

Any post can be criticized but there are posts worse than these that are not hidden.

I got to say I had my doubts on this new thing yesterday when it got implemented. I thought the system would be awfully abused and that it was an overall poor thing to do.

But after looking what the forum became with this vote/downvote thing, I couldnt agree more with it.

Stupid content is almost entirely gone, I'm reading interesting upvoted threads, I would have ignored because they got buried under OT junk or seemed just a stupid troll thing (ex: the Fizzer interview thread).

Also by looking at which threads got hidden, they're all spam, stupid things, nazi stuff, anonym or cat posts. None will be missed.

For the OT, it has really become a livable section again, 30+ hidden threads really cleaned it up well.

For people complaining of free speech, that's a stupid argument. I'm all a defender of it, but warlight is a PRIVATE site that happens to be Fizzer's work and creation. If Fizzer wanted to prevent every player under level 50 of posting in the forum, he could. It's not attacking free speech if you're preventing people to do stupid things in your work. If you want a private forum without voting/upvoting features, you can create it or move to one.

Well done Fizzer, this was in my opinion, a great update.
