anyone else feel free to offer alternatives, I'd go with:

"
Capture 1 of the 3 castles to gain access to their unique bonus system.

Capturing multiple castles leads to -50 income penalty.
"

Perhaps with accompanying graphic for non-English speakers. I also agree with 5S, perhaps by changing the castles not needed for that bonus to gray.

@UFO: are you able to test the new variant of the map in 3d?

Tbh on the whole this seems to be a positive development. The hidden layers were clever but the new map is far more understandable.

The guide on the bottom is good ... if people ignore that, it's on them. Same an INSS/Landria/other special bonus systems.

The perimeter colour lining could be a bit bolder imho ... and I think it was in the prev version you made (not the original). Here I see the R/G/B perimeter differences b/c I was looking for it but it's such a thin line that it's barely noticeable.

could just be ordinary downvotes or a super-downvote, plus you're reopening old wounds after the map's already gone public.

And honestly it's a lot more playable now, even though the invisible territories were such a clever hack.

I think there was a version of the map which expanded on this colour framing to outline the maps outside of the main hex beyond the castles ... similar to what TR posted in his 11/1/2022 16:17:08 post of this thread (near top of page 3). The colour framing just put a snitch more visual guidance onto the main map to help navigate with

Then again, maybe that coloured frame is actually misleading and best not shown, since the castles don't govern the region on the board that the bonuses are contained it but rather the groupings of the territories that form the bonuses each castle aligns to

No, it was damn near immediate, and I would like to think that my level is high enough that a significant number of others would have had to have down-voted it, which is unlikely given how dead Warlight has been as of late.

I've seen Fizzer, and his progeny do this a lot any time anyone is critical of them. Even though the post here was not at all critical of Fizzer, just some person called F.

Its a routine tactic of the authoritarian leaning types rather than address disagreement head on on the merits to silence anyone that disagrees with them when they have the power to do so.

There's a funny story about the 2020 time frame, one of the most active Single Player Community Level designers created a short series of single player that were a parody of the 2020 Presidential Debates. Because Fizzer's preferred candidate was mocked in the parody, Fizzer went and nuked every single Single Player Community level that was created, erasing thousands of records played and records held by other players. Simply because he wouldn't have his preferred political candidate mocked.

So yes, Fizzer definitely shadow-banned me at the perceived sleight. Just makes me laugh at how pathetic some people can be.

Played the new map version and was surprised to see the bonus icons that highlights each of the R/G/B bonus groups all at once were removed and you have to use the minimaps to locate the groups. oof ... too much work

I would like to think that my level is high enough that a significant number of others would have had to have down-voted it, which is unlikely given how dead Warlight has been as of late.
Then it's a super-downvote. There's a handful of players- some subset of admins- with super-votes which can instantly hide or highlight posts. Some of those indeed operate on a hair-trigger basis, but it's hard to figure out exactly which one you're dealing with.

Who was the preferred candidate? How were you able to determine this was his preferred candidate?

Either way, credit where it's due, I think in hindsight:
1) Making Trippel-Tafl private was fair, because overlapping territories cause problems, the map doesn't actually need them, and you need to enforce some assumptions the code can make. Leaky contracts make future feature development an absolute nightmare.
2) Making Trippel-Tafl private led to the map becoming considerably better.

@krinid: Yeah, the one place where the new map has become considerably more painful is that it requires spatial reasoning just to figure out which territories even make up a bonus! It's so much harder now to figure out a castle switch. Your mind now has to do the work of superimposing the minimaps onto the main map.

The only fix I can think of is if somehow the army counts could be mirrored on the minimaps, including your opponent's armies (& somehow their bonus structures), even though you're playing from different castles. That way you can just play on the minimap.

At some point, the concept itself becomes challenging to depict because you have to reason about at least two bonus structures at once anyway since you & your opponent are basically playing on different maps.
