Seems like people who started clans early have no limit on the number of clan members. But all currently created clans have this limit?

Yes, when Fizzer created Clan Wars 2 years ago, he decided to cap all cans moving forward because he felt smaller clans would provide more engagement. Clans originally had no cap, and ones created before the cap rule are grandfathered in. It wouldn't do to lose existing paying customers f.e. in clans that have a thousand people. We in THD have experienced frustration as well be cause of the cap because most clans never have 100% participation in CW, so it's unfair, but nothing can be done unless Fizzer removes the cap.

As far as I am aware, we are the last clan that was created without a members cap. All clans with a later creation date than ours should be limited at 40 members.

Is this based on the clan itself or the owner of the clan? If someone with an unlimited clan deleted the clan and created a new one, would it have the limit?

Regardless of the exact creation date of CW, that is indeed the (communicated) reason behind capping new clans' size.

First, there was idle, then the cap, then clan wars.

This change took effect only in March of 2021. But yes, the justification was CW (which Fizzer rolled out in the subsequent update) and to date there's been no sign of re-examining it or considering rolling it back.

The workaround is to just buy multiple clans and move players between them (like Excel and SF).

I've floated the idea of Fizzer upping the member limit to 60 at least, so newer clans have some ability to filter out inactive members that season that they'd rather not kick from the clan. It is very obviously unfair to newer clans when you're fighting against a clan with 3x the members that can select based off previous seasons + talking in clan chat the most active members for the next season. I'm hoping this is changed in the near future.

A clan leader that has 500 members can decide from all 500 which 40 he thinks are most active and most skilled.
I have to roll with the people in my clan, if they don't participate at all, the only thing I can do is kick and hope someone new will participate to some degree.


If Fizzer doesn't see how ridiculously biased and unfair this makes clan wars inherently then I don't know what to say else about it...

No he can't.

The first 40 to play that season are the only 40 that can play, the clan leader can't dictate which 40 that is. The only way to do so would be to kick everyone but the 40 they wanted to join clanwar, which y'know, makes them the same size as all the newer clans.

YOU can decide who joins by deciding who is in your clan, the larger clans don't have this same capability unless they kick people to be the same size as you.

Clans with 500 members are anomalies. Most bigger clans have ~100 people.

Didn't realize that's how it was set up. Still though, if you have a clan of 100+ members, you're far more likely to get to the max amount of players participating rather than a clan with only 40 members. If you look at the big clans like The Last Alliance (with 110 members), even halfway through the season, they still have room for a few extra players to participate if they felt like it so they aren't particularly stressed to kick anyone out of the clan. This isn't really a "gotcha" by any means.

If NEET had 110 members, do you think we would have more then 13 participating? Well, obviously yes. And if we had more members participating, we would be ranked higher. If you don't see how this is obviously unfair to new clans then your eyes are closed.

When I was at World league, the 40 slots get filled easily. We had 400 members.

Yes, these exact problems were voiced to Fizzer as soon as he announced CW, by pretty much everyone in the community. He is aware of the problem, but doesnt want to change anything.

I remember he said he would change some stuff at season 10(so he could get data I suppose) but that has come and gone. I’m kinda hoping the new update will be big as it’s 5.2
