I read the thread, and wow, you guys sound like a bunch of unpleasant pricks, Johnny Silverhand in particular.

You realize you can be good at a game and not be a total ass about it right? It's really not a good look. I fail to see why any reasonable person would want to join a clan that so publicly acts this arrogantly and rudely to other people. If you can't see a problem in your actions, you've been spending far too much time being toxic over warzone, and far too little person being a decent person in real life.

I've probably spent more time teaching new players to play better than many of the people in this thread have spent playing the game. Ridiculing someone who is bad, and bragging about it, is hardly the same as being a dick to everyone.

If you're bad at the game, and acknowledge it, and want to solve it, I'm very willing to help people improve. If they're bad, are in denial of that, and boast about being good, that elicits a different response. Respect is earned, not given freely.

Guy named "Elite" who posts terrible gameplay, and then defends said terrible gameplay is not doing something worthy of praise. Hell, I'd even consider not criticizing their play to be harmful, since it could result in other people attempting to learn from it, and not realizing it's riddled with mistakes.

When someone criticizes you, they're doing you a favor. Communication should be optimized for information, not for being nice to the person on the receiving end.

Communication should be optimized for information? That's demonstrably false. If it were true, we should all be speaking in the most complex manner possible at all times. We should be teaching Shakespeare to babies and talking about our deep love of multivariable calculus fresh out of the womb.

But we don't. Communication is about being UNDERSTOOD by the other person. And apart of being understood is being NICE. No one is going to listen to you if you're being a jerk to them. You could be 100% right, but no one will seriously consider what you say if you're super aggressive.

There are, of course, other reasons to be nice to people. I think it's kind of problematic to view mere friendliness as something that must bring "value" for you to consider being friendly.

If you actually think someone criticizing you is doing a favor, then let me do you a favor. You're a jerk, and you should chill out. But, I suspect, me telling you that isn't a favor right?

You're just trying to make justifications for your disgusting behavior. Stop.

I didn't really want to jump into this conversation, but communication would indeed be optimized for information.
What shakespeare does, is lengthy dialogues with little action while the story could be summed up with a few sentences if you care just about the plot.

Being understood is easier if you provide just the minimum of information to make your point. The difficulty is knowing which points are relevant to actually be understood. If you objectively state a fact and it comes around as rude, you might be an ass, but still you provided the fact in a quick and on point way.
