I was looking at the win rates of various players (for, uh... research purposes. Yeah, that's it! Research!) and I noticed that some players had their history hidden.

How does one hide their history? I do not see it listed as a setting or an unlockable feature, and a quick forum search provided no answers.

Oh. Forgot to check that page, obviously.

Not the most intuitive of systems, in all honesty...

EDIT: Thank you, btw

A better question is why do people do this?

I figured it was embarrassment but I met some people in the ladder who are good and hide their stats too.

Billy, stats are utterly meaningless. Thus, why bother showing them?

Why not showing them? I will default judge differently a player with hidden stats than one without them. You shouldn't have to be ashamed of your stats seriously...

Make your weakness your strength.
Look weak, but be good.
Thats why I don't hide mine.

On some alternative accounts of mine, I hide them since they are too good and people will possibly not join games when they see a guy with too much good stats. I don't hide the stats on my main since I did plenty of bad games (lotos, diplos, random team games, etc.) that affected badly my stats :P. So I usually don't trust a guy with hidden stats, I presume he's good and don't want to show it!

The thing also is that some players give way too much credit to stats. You can easy have good stats playing particular templates in which you are a master or modest ones playing only competitive players in hard strategic templates. While the guy playing noobs will have incredible stats, his gameplay will probably not be as good as the guy with modest stats that plays only against competitive players (guys in ladder per example). Since I am not an elite player that can beat anyone in competitive games, I need to do some easy games too in order to keep my stats decent enough to not be excluded from some games that have relatively high prerequesites.

I can understand too people that might be ashamed of their low stats and that want to hide them but seriously, stats doesn't mean that much. Only your actual level of gameplay does :)

personally, the higher my stats, the more likely I would be to hide my stats.
I am all in favor of completely anonymous games.. because judging your opponent based on who your opponent is, rather than their gameplay is kind of redundant in a strategy simulation style game.

the game I played prior to coming here I ended up having 2-3 people gang up on me in just about every game because of my stats, and it was incredibly annoying.

tats are only useful for stoking ones own ego, as they take so little into account.

^ clutters up the page. simple as that. I've played a lot of FFAs and quit seasonals that I tried 1-2 games and decided I didn't want to play 20 games of that template.

They are not 'utterly meaningless,' which makes this a non-sequitur.
