I'm with hades and willc, barricade card sounds good. "an improvised barrier erected across a street or other thoroughfare to prevent or delay the movement of opposing forces." which is exactly what it is

I like Chris' priority blockade and delayed blockade, though they are a bit formal.

I also like barricade, but unless you are looking in a dictionary, it's just another synonym for barrier, blockade, etc.

My favorite so far has been booby trap, and not just because it has "booby" in it.

If you're looking for less formal,

abandon = fence card (picture of a wooden fence)
blockade = wall card (current picture of brick wall)

I like the card names being simple and colourful. Priority/Delayed blockade is boring.

I personally like the existing name and would prefer it kept.

I would like to keep it too. But if you really want to change it, then change it to "Scorched earth card"

My issue with changing the name is that all the posts from the past will be confusing to newer players looking to get better by reading old posts. I'd vote for moving forward on the product and letting sleeping dogs lay (lie?)

I can't think of a name that is outright better than Abandon, unless you do the boring way that Chris pointed out.

there are other things more important than minor name changes, though i do suspect (at least) time is a constraint here for fizzer, limiting his options

IF the Abandon Card is to change into the Brick Wall Card,

the picture on the Blockade Card could also change.


I must say that I'm getting partial to the Trap Card options, myself.

Sabotage

Scorched Earth is the best, IMO, since it is historically accurate. Scorch would be okay. Even the word 'Sabotage' would be a good one, IMO. This latter implies that the more armies you put into the sabotage effort, the bigger the effect, although 'scorched earth' could easily have that connotation, too.

Interestingly enough, if you simply switch the names of the two existing cards, I think that would actually be an improvement:

Blockade -> Abandon (it happens at the end of the turn, which seems like how 'abandoning' a territory should happen)

Abandon -> Blockade (Blockades are often emergency procedures, and something you intend your enemies to run up against, hence should occur at beginning of turn)

However, I would still prefer that Abandon -> Scorch or Sabotage, rather than Blockade.

The card that represents a real blockade, IMO, is the Reinforce card.

Other possible names: Ruin (fits more historical times), Burn, Raze, Torch (instead of Scorch), Wreck, Spoil or Despoil, Destroy?, Vandalize, Fuck Over, Sack, Char, Waste or Lay Waste (instead of Wasteland), Ravage, Ransack?, Pillage?, Trash, Neutralize, Desolate or Desolation, Undermine (instead of Minefield), Obstruct, Block (if Blockade also renamed).

I kinda like Obstruct, actually. But Ruin is pretty darn good too. Waste/Lay Waste isn't bad.

Way back it was mentioned just to change the name to fortified abandon.

I still think this is the best suggestion because you are abandoning the territory with a possibility of taking it back later in the game (or your opponent taking it). The blockade card is just that, a blockade, where when played successfully, opponents should have to go around it, not through it as they might do with a fortified abandon.

How about secession ? Your armies create a new country with the locals.

Abandon is actually the same as Blockade (except with different priority). New players get confused sometimes and used it wrong.
So please correct both if you intend to change names.

Blockade Priority Card
Blockade Delay Card

or

Wasteland Priority Card
Wasteland Delay Card

or

Scorched-Earth Priority Card
Scorched-Earth Delay Card

i like the names but imo as the territory becomes neutral it should explain that ... scorched earth doesnt mean anything blockade indicates it is still under your control....
