The format of Clan Cup is akin to a Single Elimination Tournament except that Teams play against each other in a best of 5 - the first Team to 3 wins progresses and the losers are eliminated.

Anyone in your Clan who wants to play should be able to find a team since Clans can submit an unlimited number of Teams.

Rather than having an A Team and B Team for your Clan, try to get creative. In the example I use below, The Harmony Teams are cutlery and the TLA Teams are crockery.

The match ups will be random with the template also randomly selected from the list of MTL templates (with a small number of exceptions where it may be difficult to make matches).

Example:

JK_3 Vs SilentWarrior on Biomes - JK wins
Ares Vs dd on Fast Earth - dd wins
Naviiso Vs Texx on Fast Earth - Naviiso wins
Seraph Vs Kcebnroh on Great Lakes - Seraph wins
Grimer Vs Bodski on Timid Lands - Bodski wins

TLA Plates win so their whole team progresses and the whole Harmony Forks team is eliminated.

Unlike Clan League, this should not be a massive effort. Even if 64 teams enter, it would only mean 6 games for those who make it to the final and one or two games for 75% of those who enter.

FAQs

1. What boot times will apply ?

Games will have a 3d boot with 2 days banked.


2. Are vacations honoured ?

No.


3. Are substitutions allowed ?

Yes, an unlimited number of substitutions is allowed per team, although players can only play for one team during the competition (players cannot even change teams within a Clan during the event).


4. Can templates be vetoed like on the MTL ?

No.


5. What about MTL Templates which are Members only ?

Those have been excluded from the Cup.


6. Will there be any seeding ?

No.


7. How do I get involved ?

Discuss within your Clan and register your teams. To register a team, 5 players are required for each. Any member of your Clan who is not included in a team is a substitute by default. Each Clan should provide a list of Team names and the 5 Players in each team. Clans can have an unlimited number of Teams so that everyone in a Clan can play.

A separate Forum Post will be made for registration, but please comment below to show interest on behalf of your Clan. It would be helpful if someone could initially volunteer as the Lead for their Clan.


8. Can I play if I am not in a Clan ?

No.


9. What if I leave my Clan during the competition ?

You will be expected to complete the game you are playing but will not be to able to play in future rounds so would need to be substituted out. Players must be in the Clan they represent when each game is made and cannot switch team during the season.


10. When will this take place ?

As soon as I can get everything started. Maybe August but more likely September.


11. How will matches be made ?

I will make a live draw on twitch or similar and then manually make the games. Hopefully the randomness will makes these draws interesting for those involved.


12. Can I help at all ?

I would like some help hosting the Cup Draw each round and making the games, but at this stage starting to get organised in your Clans would be the best way to help.

I will arrange Harmony teams. I don't know how many teams we will submit yet.

To encourage clans to strategize and plan around player specialties. Could a team be told which 5 templates they will be playing their round's match on and then assign their players to each template? (This would be anonymous from the other clan until the games are created.)

If my question doesn't make sense, I'll give an example to clarify later.

Your Team will randomly be matched with another team.

Then your 5 Players will be randomly matched with their 5 players.

Then templates will be randomly assigned to each game.

Hmm.. What if I want to mix up people in different clans and make a Butt Brothers team with Texx, Corn, Myself, etc?

Making this just like a regular tournament so you have multiple Clan Cups throughout the year with a set template for each could be fun too.

That said I know that's not your current goal. I'll see who's interested in my clan and be their lead if we join. We'd probably only end up with 1 or 2 games each so shouldn't be too hard to gather a group or two to help see what this turns into.

Will there be team events (2v2/3v3) in future iterations? (Sounds to me like it’s only 1v1 rn)

Kenny, I have two ideas for team competitions.

One would be a straightforward knock-out like this, so we could have Clan League, Clan Cup & Clan Teams Cup. Hopefully Clans would try to win the 'double' or 'treble'. Clan Teams Cup is a little more complex to organise and since I am doing everything manually for now, that may not start this year.

The other idea is 'Squad Wars' or 'Squad Game' I'm not sure which title I like better. That would be an event with a higher level of involvement and requires some further thought as to how it could be practically delivered. The Cups are designed to be very light touch, so any conflict with other events should not be an issue.

I really love team games and think that they are underused in the strategic community.

Should I put you down as the Master's main contact ? If so, start thinking about your team names. Since you guys have the McDonalds symbol as your logo, maybe your teams could be something from their menu ?
