@pi Perhaps the synchronicity of our near-simultaneous posts could be the deciding factor for those still on the fence regarding 5S’s intentions..?

I posted about someone, intentionally or not, creating what the rules consider to be rigged games, while you posted about 5S’s repeated penchant for posting phraseology that could be viewed as entrapment.

I dont think it falls under the category of rigged and definitely isn't a lottery. It's just a dead draw, until someone boots or has had enough and surrenders. Similar draws can happen in normal games. There should definitely be a 'vote to decide random winner' option in tournaments/ladders, but that's not happening until my Draw Resolver mod falls into the 'Standard' or 'Promoted' mod category. Currently it's 'Experimental'.

RE: tourney rigged or not: The tourney isn't rigged b/c neither player has an advantage. It's just pointless, a matter of who gives up or boots first vs continues to lock in no moves/deployments each turn.

RE: 5s, don't let him off the hook _quite so easily_ ... lol, he's one of the good guys, but he's been know to lead people on in pranks in GC using one of his alts, pretending to be a noob, asking questions that most people already know the answers to, and some of the vets in GC spend time explaining things to him, just for someone to advise "you're explaining the basics to 5s" (the most memorable one from recent time was stefano explaining how CW works to 5s b/c he kept asking questions, lol, which does have a funny element for anyone who knows how much 5s contributes to CW analytics, but obviously just wasting stef's time). He's a bit of a prankster, but it's never malicious/mean/evil, just light pranking; sometimes it's hard to know if it's being serious or just pranking again (like when he started a movement to add Lotto to CW templates)

To my mind it fits the definition of being rigged because it allows the manual selection of 6 terr, which is enough to select an entire bonus from the start, but only if one knows to do this.

EDIT: Dan pointed out that it was a warlords distribution, so this point is irrelevant

You didn’t read the settings, it’s random warlords. You can’t get a bonus from distribution

I'd still report it since it breaks the spirit of the rule by griefing and tricking players into an unplayable time-sink of a tournament. It hasn't been purely the participants' responsibility to read the settings and find out whether they're unplayable for years now.

I stand corrected.

That initial post linked to a stalemated game with over 2,000 turns. Why didn't Warzone's site administrator step in and annul the tourney? It served no benefit, save to frustrate all who entered it.

I'm not sure why people are complaining so much about that tourney - like yeah obviously it was a trick to waste people's time, but if your time is that valuable just surrender lol

It's not really gray area, the setting was deliberately activated to allow people to do this, most likely as a partial and very much imperfect solution to kingmaker problem, but if he uses it just to troll you then it's rather annoying...

I didn't get a good grasp of it at first, but now if I understand correctly, when he realized the game is irreversibly lost he proceeded to accept the surrender so as far as I can see he was reasonable and you should either put extra effort into checking settings for this particular feature, or accept higher boot rate, which is only fair considering that it really is a legitimate and useful setting to use for some FFA games

or, of course you could play ball and try to do your best even if you think it's lost, I would in your place give the player who didn't accept the surrender an ultimatum to create an opportunity for me to have a shot at winning the game or else I will go after him/her

If you are still in position where you can manage to win (given enough skill/effort/luck) and still choose to surrender then I think it's bad sportsmanship to sabotage those who keep you in the game (tenfold so if you then withdraw your surrender just to really drag them down)

He didn't accept my surr until well into my suicide and not until people began questioning his sanity, including him. All the while another player had the upper hand in the game, Had he accepted my surr sooner, it would have given him a greater chance to keep that other player at bay.

Green is the one who doesn't accept it, because it helps him against Orange (as Lime helpfully pointed out to you).

Lime wants to surrender.
Tried to give you the win.
You're the only one who doesn't accept it, no idea why.

Orange doesn't want to VTE.
Because he's the one who has the best chance of winning.

Where did I get it wrong?

Also keep in mind the information who didn't vote for your surrender is no longer available through any other means than chat.

I just realized that Green got booted and so it might mean that he didn't actually end up accepting but that part is simply not 100% clear, but regardless, almost up to that point his unacceptance of your surrender was completely justified. He played to win and you played to play, your terrible experience was created by your lack of commitment to the game, I'd suggest don't play RT games if you don't have the time for them.

When one sits for a game of Scrabble in RT how long is a reasonable expectation for it to take?

Well, scrabble usually ends up being a stalemate between 2 players, so depending on how stubborn they are, it could take until one of them gets booted...
