Ivan0 is doing the Hex Earth strat, which involves using a few Inspire Merc powers on the Hex Earth map in each super-ascension. I guess that there's no need to actually buy the powers yet. There're plenty of Inspire Merc powers to grab on the maps.

I never played Hex Earth. I super-ascend every 2-3 weeks without using powers. It is achieved just simply following the market strat and getting familiar with the maps. After super-ascending for a few times, with the help of a good AP bonus from super-ascension and the insane army cache boost artifact, market strat works pretty early on. Like starting at Fort Harbor or Reconquest I already have enough mercs to clear the whole map.

Here's my diary of what's happened between my 9th super-ascension (1st Dec) and my 10th super-ascension (19th Dec). The dates are the starting dates of the levels, not the ending dates. A day ends when I sleep (so 2am 5th Dec counts as 4th Dec). In case you wonder why the level time of the last few days became a lot longer, it's due to real life duties related to university semester ending (and also waiting for digs so I can upgrade my army camp boost to legendary).

Probably Ivan0 is doing similar things, but using Hex Earth instead of Hardened Old Town+Hardened Scandinavia to grind AP.

I never recorded the investment order in detail. Maybe I shall start doing this when I super-ascend again, which shall happen within a few days.

The rough order is usually something like:
1. Joint strike 25% and increased army camp production 80%-100%
2. Additional mercs until unlocking phase 2
3. 5% auto-conquer
4. Continue on additional mercs until I start running out of money
5. 50% merc discount
6. Additional merc 110-120%
7. Alloy value 100% and additional merc 120-140%
8. Unlock phase 3: 5% auto-upgrade camp, max resources cache, army camp discount, crafter speed
9. Max can skip levels and additional merc, maybe statistics as well
10. Start with tech 4
11. Max increased bonus money
12. Max better hospitals
13. 5% advanced-auto-conquer
14. Simultaneous levels 2 (maybe faster digging first if I need artifacts), and push increased army camp production to 300%-500%
15. Max increased army cache
16. Invest in whatever I feel like for the super-ascension requirement

My phase 3 advancements are:
+10 Skip Level (max)
+2 Tech
+17 Merc Camp Visibility (max)
+85% Money from Bonuses
+7 Market Visibility (max)

All the Phase 3 advancements are not very useful late-game regardless so I just took some quality-of-life ones to hit the requisite 25,000 AP (mine comes out to 25,061 AP).

Other than that I do pretty much exactly what Mathematician does. The one other difference is I rode Hex Earth until I ran out of Skip Level + Inspire Merc powers while he is saving his (for a future patch?). Probably good arguments on each side there.

Oops I missed your question. Yes I mostly play with 2h idle time cap. 2h is usually enough. I rarely need to wait for more than 2h. With the way I play, waking up with 10h of idle progress won't help me more than waking up with 2h of idle progress.

Just did my 12th super-ascension. This is my first sub-2-weeks super-ascension. As Arcturus suggested, this time I recorded my AP investments in detail. I also recorded the boosts I used for each level. By boost, I mean powers, active artifacts, clan request armies.

Boosts are recorded inside the brackets.
eSACa=my epic supercharge army camp artifact
iTWa=my insane time warp artifact
cra=clan request army
drFCp=daily reward door gave me free cache power, and I was forced to use it immediately due to having at least 5 already
similar for drSACp, drSMp, drSLp, drFBp
