I'm just saying freedom of choosing to take it or not. We are smart enough to decide whether to take it or not... Whoever feels like it will protect him, go ahead... mRNA vaccine is not something that you should play with... Altering the DNA in my opinion brings huges risks with it. Since proper vaccine should undergo 10 years of testing minimum, before being release for human use.

Dutch, that's not quite how vaccines work mechanically. Think of the immune system like an adaptive missile defense system. Part of it reacts to the missile technology it sees and develops countermeasures for similar future weaponry. (As you can see, the big gap in such a system would be novel weaponry: If your system can't adapt in time, the missiles do significant, possibly lethal, damage.)

Vaccines are like stealing enemy technology and using it to train your missile defense system before actually getting shot at. E.g., for the flu vaccine, it's like using a deactivated and inert enemy missile to train your system instead of waiting for the enemy to actually fire the missile and potentially cause actual damage. For the OG smallpox vaccine, it's like firing upon yourself with a closely related missile and having your system learn about the whole new type of missiles, preparing you for a much stronger enemy weapon of the same type.

The missile defense system still does the same work; it finds, targets, and destroys enemy missiles. The shortcut you're taking is in training the recognition and countermeasure preparation system: In a way, that's working harder since you're preparing it early on for various types of missiles rather than waiting for it to much less rapidly find them on its own.

I think the immune system issue you're thinking of is overprotection, which would be like shutting down enemy missiles through other means (here, not going outside and living in very clean environments) so your missile defense system has to do much less work. On the other hand, vaccines just help- rather than replace- your immune system by preparing it but not fighting the virus themselves.

This is why Drix, rather than Chill The Flu Shot, is Osmosis Jones's partner.

In that case, we had the worst possible reaction to covid. We should just get out and about like normal, rather than give our immune systems an extended vacation.

@goodgame: Staying indoors during COVID is like staying in a bunker during a massive nuclear attack instead of wisely using the opportunity to train your missile defense system. /s

Remember the novel weaponry gap I mentioned? This scenario is the exact situation where purely leaning on your immune system can fail massively for the population at large. We are in an arms race with pathogens and sometimes the pathogens pull ahead.

(Your missile defense system can't help you if everything is dead. This is the same reason measles parties are a bad idea, and goes back to the logic of vaccines: You want to train your immune system with little-to-no risk instead of risking your life and getting permanent damage by just yolo-ing your immune system. You prepare your body for dealing with ordinary pathogens by going outside; you don't try the same approach with a plague.)

If you're really concerned about this "vacation" for your immune system, your home likely has many toilets you can lick.

It's great to be Dutch! If you follow the midgets, they lead you to a pot of gold. Unless you follow them all the way to Belgium, then there's just potholes and fries.
