+1 Rogue NK. That old Start Guides thread is mostly overwhelming; MH guide is good enough for a newbie.

Just read the M'Hunters guide if you're new. It lays out the core skills really well and should all make sense with a grasp of the game mechanics.

I fynk' that you don't need any guides, just see what other players are doing during games and if you're intelligent, you will learn.

Funny thing is, when I started warlight 5 years ago, learning the basics took me 10-20 games and after that there's no much progress, because there's not much more to it. My skill level is similar after playing 50 games and 1500 games.

Clearly theres still plenty to learn :P

I guarantee you there's a shit ton of stuff to learn. @berdan. You just might not know of it yet. Try playing some high ranking players. Oh boy. xD

Theoretically people can learn from watching top players; that is clearly not the majority. It's good for trying to go from good to great though.

@Hi I would agree with some of the others, just read a single guide for now. I would also suggest sticking to one template (autogames/1v1 imo), so you don't have to learn how to expand on different templates. You can practice capturing bonuses efficiently in games against AIs. For auto games, for now, focus on capturing 1 bonus by the end of turn 2, and 3 bonuses by the end of turn 4. :)

If you have questions about specific turns and stuff, you can link screenshots and stuff.

I know to a high level player, most of the stuff in the guides apply to every single game, ergo "there's no need to stick with one template". He's not there yet. Might as well keep his game mechanics to a minimum. (Assuming "he")

@Frozen Well, the high-level gameplay is a different thing.

What I meant is, the game mechanics in in itself is very simple.

It's a steep learning curve when in short time you can learn 80% of skill like, taking bonuses efficiently, attacking with 3, taking bonus with 1, 2 stacks. Then after the 80% you hit a ceiling when you don't improve much from game to game anymore.

So the puenta is, you can be a decent player fast, but to master game at pro-play takes a lot of time, or you never get there.

You'd be way better after 1500 games than 50 if you had continued trying to improve.

There's lots more for you to learn, you just joined the ladder and are 10-5. Is that horrible? No, not really, but like, multiple people including myself who have posted in this thread would be expected to be 15-0 vs the people you played. You still make common mistakes that could be improved upon.

Your picks in particular in your ladder games are complete garbage. I'm not even trying to be mean, they just objectively are terrible.

@Njord you never use the attack with 1 and then with 2 armies? I think if you're in a "dead end" situation sometimes it works, but it's situational. In 97% it's better to take with 3, but if there are leftover armies, it's ok.

@Silverhand Do you want to play some 1v1 games for practice? If you don't mind...

Btw sure there is more to learn. Just my 3 cents are that most players don't progress past a certain point, and still only 10% of players can be in the top 10%, it's not like everyone can get there :P some people can't and won't no matter what lul.

And not everyone is interested in competitive play and micro-movements, for example casual players :P

i would say it is clearly less then 3 % of times that it would be a good move, way less. But it happens ofc.

If you are not planning to continue an expansion in an area, then taking a bonus with 1 and 2 army attacks is very useful. But it usually happens on micromanagement templates such as Numenor, Atlantis, Discovery...

on atlantis and numenor it would often happen, but that is also because of the huge amount of inefficient bonuses around the efficient ones, but yeah on micromanagement temps it will happen, more often for sure. So if one gets more income or can get a tempo ( in chess terms) then one should do it, but as a general rule it is a bad idea.... and one needs to understand why the general gameplay is like that before one can asses when the rules needs to be broken.

Apart from mimicry, I find that chatting also distacts ten and they get booted. Only works in real time tho

As a Diplo player myself, its best to not get PE.

And don't ally everyone and wait for them to get booted in a Diplo; It ruins the fun. Especially in my Diplos, where I will PE you.
