in the simplest of terms, a fixed point theorem means that a function f has one or more points for which f(x) = x.
Brouwer's fixed point theorem states that for any continuous function f, mapping a compact convex set to itself, there is a point x_0 where f(x_0) = x_0 holds. Compactness means we're dealing with a subset of euclidian space which is bounded and closed. A convex set basically means we have a shape in which you can choose two arbitrary points and connect them. Every point that's on the line segment between these two points is in the shape, otherwise it's not a convex set.
Hope that clears things up.

If Nauzhror has studied mathematics, and does not know to do these very elementary things calling them "obscure" then it is questionable as to what he studied at all. I deliberately chose questions that were elementary and drew from a large range of mathematics:

(1) Brouwer's fixed point theorem is topological
(2) Decomposing tensor products with with the standard representation of the symmetric group is Representation Theory
(3) Brownian motion expected hitting times is probability
(4) And an intrinsic derivation of special relativity is physics, not even mathematics

The questions are not "specialized" at all..

Uhh, I took up to partial differential equations in college, and you tell me that this is elementary. If this is indeed elementary, then why haven't I heard of it?

Where exactly did I say I couldn't do them. I said they were obscure. Obscure does not remotely equate to "Too obscure for me to understand". It means most people aren't going to know the answers. Whether I know them isn't remotely relevant to whether they are obscure or not.

And yes, the questions are absolutely specialized. Nothing you asked is covered prior to university, or even covered in university by people without degrees in related fields.
