(6) Kezzo/USA Bitches (Wins: 0, Losses: 3)

Kezzo/USA Bitches i feel sad for Kezzo and Xeno - they lost 3 games due to the fact that USA Bitches got booted. The remaining two games, vs AI/Johnmd and Supersmoove/Octane, will be replaced, and are yet to be created.

(5) Marsellais/cj (Wins: 1 (boot win), Losses: 2)

Loss 1: The game vs INSIDE/Fortknox was interesting. INSIDE had an advantage on the islands since his ftb was superior to Le MArsellais ftb in that he needed no deploys to take it and also it had one more income. INSIDE however, chose to channel this advantage into expansion to Romania rather than clearing marsellais. FortKnox had a ftb and also a beautiful position in Baltic states which not only gave him turn 2 income but allowed him to counter the center beautifully. Since most of LeMarsellais/cj 's income was in the center, and the remaining was on the island, it meant that they had no safe income. In contrast, INSIDE's income in the south was absolutely safe, and likewise so was fort's income in benelux and baltic states. Thus, INSIDE and Fort put pressure on the enemy income while their own income was safe, and Marsellais/cj could not do anything about it.

Loss 2: vs AI and Johnmd: See (4) Victory 1.

Victory 1: USABitches got booted on picks and allowed for an easy victory against Kezzo/USA Bitches.

Unfinished games: vs aoc and 90, currently aoc and 90 appear to have better income and better position. Unfinished game vs SuperSmoove and Octane - the territories have just been distributed. Supersmoove and Octane seem to have the advantage on picks.

(4) AI/Johnmd (Wins: 1, Losses: 3)

Loss 1: They should have won vs Supersmoove/Octane -- they had much superior picks, but made a huge blunder on turn 1 by not denying UK. johnmd should have denied UK and waited for one turn or two if super went aggressive before taking iceland, and should have focussed on denying UK on turn 1. AI confessed in chat that he did not see that UK was a ftb - huge mistake that costed them the game.

Loss 2: They had slightly superior picks against aoc/90, but aoc/90 played to their strengths, forcing the game into a long-game and taking advantage of the fact that they controlled the center of the map, and double teamed johnmd to get him stuck on 4 income. the fact that aoc made stellar predictions in norway really helped. AI/johnmd also made some great predictions in iceland where AI cleared 90 with an attack of 3 armies! But this was not enough to save them.

Loss 3: The game against INSIDE/fortknoxville was quite interesting. The triple pick by fortknoxville in UK made it impossible for AI to hold a spot in ireland on turn 2 since AI had no ftb. AI only got income on turn 3 by which time he was cleared off the islands. AI and johnmd had the east to themselves, but not for long, because INSIDE came with guns blazing from norway to put an end to that. johnmd made a mistake by giving up the spot in finland too easily. He was trying to counter the center, fair enough, but he compromised the east by doing so. And the predictions by INSIDE in the east was amazing, managing to avoid the double team. Fortknox took advantage of the double team and became huge due to expansion.

Victory 1: AI and cj were the strong players with large incomes, and johnmd and Marsellais were the weaker players with smaller incomes. AI managed to break Marsellais one turn before cj broke johnmd, and this allowed johnmd to put a lot of pressure on marsellais in the east. Since Marsellais chose to go for denmark, he could not keep deploying much in the east and was cleared. And to do anything from denmark, he had to move through germany which wastes a lot of his armies. After clearing marsellais, johnmd had a free passage to expand in the east which became a big late game decider. However, in my opionion, the real man of the match was AI - whose play and predictions in the south/center were amazing. He broke marsellais, kept johnmd alive in the center, and expanded excellently, and perfectly countered cj's income in the center. If AI did not outplay cj in the center, then it would have been an entirely different story, with cj having income in both the center as well as the islands and norway.

Unfinished games: the game vs Team Xeno has not yet been created.

(3) Supersmoove/Octane (Wins: 1, Losses: 1)

Loss 1: against aoc/90. This was a loss on picks. Neither Smoove nor Octant had safe income on turn 1, and only octane had safe income after that. 90 had a ftb and aoc had a nice safe +4. There was no chance for smoove and octane since smoove would be stuck on 4 income and octane did not have very good prospects either, whereas aoc had solid 9 income and was denying their income whilst 90 could expand like crazy.

Victory 1: against AI/johnmd - see (4) Loss 1.

Unfinished games: They seem to ahve an advantage on picks against cj13 and le Marsaillais. The game against Kezzo and USA Bitches has not been created yet. The game against INSIDE and Fortknoxville appears to be quite close, although it appears that INSIDE and Fort have a small advantage.

(2) INSIDE/FortKnoxville (Wins: 3, Losses: 1)

Loss 1: against aoc/90 - this was a boot loss on picks, but even if Fort was not booted, aoc/90 would have had an advantage on picks. However, the advantage would not have been so substantial that it would have decided the game - INSIDE and Fort would have had a reasonably good chance to win. It is unfortunate that Fort got booted.

Victory 1: Against Kezzo and USA Bitches - this was a boot win.

Victory 2: Against AI/Johnmd - see (4) Loss 3

Victory 3: Against leMarsaillais/cj13 - see (5) Loss 1.

Unfinished games: Against Supersmoove and Octane, and INSIDE/Fort appear to haev a slight advantage although the game is close and could swing either way.

It has been just over 2 weeks since i've done an update on the 3v3 africa tournament so here is my update for this tournament.

To refresh minds here is what the standing were on 8/14/2017 when i did my update:
1. All Blacks (xeno, Phakh, max) 2-0
2. Poop Squad (MT, Cluster, Drunken) 2-1
3. Exploders (Juan, Apollo, waka) 1-0
4. Irgeurs (Benoit, Bonsai, Patriot) 1-1
5. Army of Lovers (Love, Atom, Johnmd) 0-1
6. Space Dolphins (Inside, Pabse, Dolphin) 0-3 (dolphin getting booted)

I will only go over the games finished since then in this post and have words about 2 of the currently ongoing games.

In the last 2 weeks only 2 games have finished this being Exploders vs Army of Lovers and the battle between the undefeated teams up to this update All Blacks vs Exploders. I will cover both games in order of date the games finished at.

Exploders vs Army of Lovers
general map: all of the exceptional lands had at least 1 territory you could pick in this game.
After the distribution Lovers were ahead on income with a total of 4 this due to the fact that I personally lost my 1st pick but got my 4th because of that to counter my 1st pick. My 4th pick was in a jungle/swamp area which is -3 income for just 1 territory so just bad to have.
On the other side Love and Juan would be in a direct battle with each other all game long due to the fact both of them were in rift valley lakes and the NW side of the map in the exceptional lands/islands in that area.
For johnmd and apollo would count the same with them being in Nile Valley and Madagascar they would be facing each other all game long as well but apollo would have some safe income compared to john which had all 3 picks next to 2 of apollo his picks.

On turn 1 John and Apollo went fully on madagascar and john went aggresive there in hope he would be able to get the advantage of 2v1 spot there but this didn't work out in the end since he couldn't eliminate apollo from there that turn.
Love took his islands and fully deployed in the Rift valley area while Juan decided to work on the mountain area due to the fact i was planning on using the blockade card the turn after which we thought would be the most advantageous move for our team.
Atom decided to take his first turn bonus in the Horn of africa and started working on Cape of good hope and taking Oranje Valley with 5 armies to counter a possible desert pick on that side. Myself on the other hand just worked on my bonusses slowly since i just didn't have the income to take an additional territory. I was also bordering Love at this point of the game already.

Going into turn 2 John decided to basically do the same as the previous turn while apollo was deploying down there again as well but nothing really changed in Madagascar after 2 turns.
In the Rift valley Love managed to drive Juan back into the last territory in this bonus but Juan took the mountains in the north in the mean time.
The action was down south this turn though. Atom didn't seem to expect the counter from the swamp and decided to just take the bonus with 3 armies while doing nothing with his additional armies in Oranje Valley. I took advantage of this by attacking Natal as well late during this turn in the hope to prevent Atom from taking this bonus and blockading the swamp behind my back for the 3 additional income every turn. In the mean time i've just continued slowly on my other bonus and was hoping Love didn't attack my island which didn't happen in the end either.

Turn 3 was an important turn packed with action mainly in Madagascar with Apollo perfectly predicting the deployments from John and managing to eliminate him from Madagascar in just 1 turn. Due to this he lost the slight advantage he had in the NE side of the map against john my attaking him there as well.
On the Love and Juan front in the center nothing really changed except for the fact Atom was now bordering Juan in the center as well. In the north Love went agressive with result going from the islands into the main land. Meanwhile in the South Africa nothing really changed.

Turn 4 was more packed with action but the border between John and Apollo stayed the same while Apollo would finish Madagascar at this point.
Love and Atom would focus on Juan this turn in the center though and would manage to eliminate him from this area.
In the north Love just decided to go from a single border to a double border on Juan his income and Juan would basically do nothing there this turn as well.
A bit further to the south I decided to attack Love on this turn to take 1 of his islands and was succesful doing this.
In South Africa I went aggressive as well taking a territory away from Atom at this point.

Turn 5 is very unique in the fact that Atom got booted but due to the fact that Apollo was on Holiday at that moment he was able to take back the control of the AI on the same turn.
On the border between apollo and john nothing happened. In the NW side of the map Juan managed to take back Casablanca from Love giving him 1 less income due to that and Love also started moving into the Western Sahel which would give him another 1 income less.
I decided to fully go aggresive in South Africa again and hoping to eliminate Atom from there on this turn but was 1 short of clearing the place he was stacking.

On turn 6 Atom finished another bonus and started working towards other bonusses as well at this point but he totally didn't deploy in South Africa at all. Due to this i was expecting him to do something else and deployed hard there myself thinking he would try and move to the northern territory so attacking that late myself.
Juan managed to lower Love his income with 2 while losing 1 income himself on this turn by taking 1 of the island away from love and love was continueing to move further into the Western Sahel. Love also started working on the forest next to Rift Valley.

Turn 7 Atom got booted once again and wouldn't come back all game either.
His AI on this turn did very well by only making 2 attacks which were negative for the income from Atom.
At this point Apollo gifted Comores (next to Madagascar) to me to let me fight against Atom. We were planning on doing this 2 turns ahead of this which is the reason i went aggresive in the south as well in the previous turns. Due to the fact i had the south already for myself at this point i went to move on and attack love in the island hard while taking the mountains north of South Africa due to the fact i had a huge stack standing down there being useless otherwise.
Nothing happened between john and Apollo still and Love would continue his journey into Sahel to and switching territories with Juan in the NW.

I don't feel like it's worth going on after this due to the fack that Atom his AI was just making moves which would lose them positioning while we were just playing it safe at this point. If Atom wasn't booted i feel like this game might have been going on for like another 10 turns due to the fact it was still too close to say anything about who would be winning this game.


Moving into the other game which is even better in my opinion i will continue in a next post. Only typing all of this post took me about 1 hour in total so expect part 2 with roundup of score and few comment on upcoming/ongoing games.

3v3 Africa part 2

So after last game the standing were:

This will be the direct game between the current undefeated teams

All Blacks vs Exploders
Picks: All blacks went with a strategy where each player would have a dedicated 1-4 and then a mirrored 5-10 between all of them while Exploders went for dedicated 1-2 picks and then mirrored the rest of their picks

Initial Distribution:
All Blacks: Xeno got a double pick in/around High Plateau and a pick at west Sudan. Max got a pick in the Nile Valley, island in the central north and 1 in Rift Valley (directly between 2 picks from Exploders) and Pahkh got a pick in madagascar, East African Rift and Albertine Rift (jungle next to Rift Valley).
Exploders: I got my double pick on the mountains next to Niger and East Sudan as last pick which is directly next to my other 2 picks. Apollo got a pick in the Nile Valley, in Zanzibar and the East African Rift while Juan would be in Casablanca, High Plateau and Rift Valley

For turn 1 we decided to go aggresive due to the fact all 3 of us were within close directly bordering multiple picks from our opponents. I just deployed the optimal on my border to attack Phakh who was direclty next to me and Juan would deploy fully and attack 1st move the stack territory from max which we would be able to do. Phakh went with his 2 central picks to the territory between the 2 of his picks to stack his armies in the center to 1 position and tried to prevent Apollo from taking Comores but Apollo would attack that with 4 in the end and manage to take that bonus.
In High Plateau Xeno decided to go aggresive and fully deploy in that area and make attacks of 6 and 5 on the territories connecting to the one Juan has.
After turn 1 the Exploders are 2 income ahead but positionally you can't really say anything yet i feel like.

On turn 2 both Pahkh and max were mainly focussing on Apollo while Phakh used his stack in Eastern rift area to attack Juan while Xeno was focussing on Juan in the High Plateau as well. Due to this Apollo lost his position in Nile Valley and Juan was in a really bad position regarding High Plateau in where he would lose that position in a few turn. In hte mean time i just started expending into Niger and went after the stack from Phakh since we were expecting him to attack in that region.
At the end of this turn Exploders their income lead is reduced to 1.

On turn 3 Juan decided to give up on High Plateau and focus fully on Rift valley which worked out since Phakh was more focussed on possibly breaking Apollo his income then staying in a good position in the center where he was 3v1 at this point already but he managed to eliminate Apollo from there this turn anyway but Apollo was only 1 territory to the side after all. At this point i finished Niger and we managed to get Phakh down to only 1 territory at the end of this turn. In the mean time Xeno gifted his Barotseland to max to give him a position to fight in the center as well.

After watching that turn we were like they need to gift Boratseland to Pahkh in order to keep him alive since he was in such a bad position but seems like they already used it at this point.
We were also thinking about gifting Apollo a spot in the NW of the map but due to the fact that on turn 5 max would have first order we decided as a team to not do this since that might have meant we would have just wasted our only gift card.

On turn 4 nothing important really happened. Phakh managed to attack the territory south of him and stay alive that way. Apollo was just expending a bit into Madagascar which he took from Phakh the turn before (sorry forgot to mention it on that turn to be fair and too lazy to go back and mention it there) and max would just go and border Juan in both the north and the center at this point. The only real action that happened was me going into west Sudan with a decent stack since we figured that was the only place Xeno his 3rd pick could be at and we namaged to get that territory which might be crucual for the remainder of the game due to the fact it would give a double border to my income. On my other side i also went and moved on to work towards a double border on Xeno his main income but he moved into that territory as well on this specific turn.

On turn 5 we managed to eliminate Pahkh with a bit of teamwork due to the fact we were aware of the move order in this game being that apollo would move first from our team that turn and then Juan while Phakh had his move after both of them. Apollo would also take madagascar on this turn and max would advance in the north and bring Juan down to only 1 territory there. For the battle between Xeno and myself i focussed more on the south while Xeno went full deployment in the north which I personally didn't expect.
At this point Xeno had 10 income, max 12 income, apollo 10 income, Juan 11 income and myself with 12 income so we were 11 ahead on income at this point but positionally Xeno and max had the advantage.

On turn 6 Xeno attacked me on our nothern border but nothing really happened between the 2 of us. At this point i was hoping i could stall Xeno to a point where Juan and Apollo would win a 2v1 against max. Speaking about max he decided to try and eliminate Juan from the north but Juan calculated perfectly how many armies he needed to hold on to the north at this point. In hte mean time Apollo would try and help out Juan in the center and fully focus on getting towards high plateau to break Xeno his resistance.

on turn 7 nothing happened between Xeno and myself, only deployments on front and few delays from xeno. But on max his front a good amount of things changed. max has finally gotten all of the north for himself and he managed to take the majority of Rift Valley as well though this would go together with losing Barotseland and another territory in eastern plateau giving Apollo a border to both Rift Valley and High Plateau.

Now All Blacks had 26 income in total with a fully safe north of 9 income and Exploders having a total income of 32 but the least safe position out of the 2 teams.

It is unfortuonate that Xeno got booted at this point making this game change from a very close one into a game that max had no change of coming back from at all on his own due to the fact xeno went from 10 to 0 income due to AI moves (really AI is shit on this map specifically)

Due to this the standing in the tournament are as following right now.

Some other info on currently ongoing games.
Army of Lovers against Space dolphins has boots on both sides. The side from Space Dolphins has a replacement for the last game though while i haven't heard anything from Love regarding Atom his boots.
Space Dolphins against Exploders game will have a replacement in the place for Dolphin so this game that is in the tournament won't count and will get Rocky1 replacing Dolphin his spot.

Ranking of teams (so far)

1. IRGEURS are currently first with 53 points overall and 19 games played. The places where they got the most points so far is in the 1v1s and 2v2s, from where they got 24 pts each. Their mvp so far for 1v1s is GreenTea, with an amazing record of 6-1!

2. Exploders have currently the second max points with 124, the second best total points earned with 35 and have completed 14 games so far. Their 3v3 Africa has been stellar so far with 15 points in 3 games! Well done Juan, Waka and Apollo!

3. All Blacks are currently third with 25 points in 17 games. They are doing quite good in 1v1 right now and have only 1 defeat in 3v3. They have a max points of 104 so they are still in the race for the first place of this competition!

4. The Poop Squad are currently fourth with 26 points in 20 games. 10 points of their current 26 points came from their 3v3 team which includes Master Turtle, Drunken Master and Cluster. The 4 games they lost because of Kaerox's boots (before he was declared retired from the competition) hurts them but they still have a max points of 96 so nothing is impossible yet.

5. SpaceDolphins, despite some unfortunate boot losses, do well with 30 points in 22 games. INSIDE and MIFRAN really help this team I think and the only reason their 3v3 team has 3 defeats in 3 games is because Mr. Dolphin got booted in all 3 games (and on his 1v1 games as well). The good thing is that Mr.Dolphin will now be subbed in all his next games so they shouldn't have more boots coming. They have a max points of 93

6. Despite having a max point of 97, which is higher than Dolphins and Poop Squad, it seems like Army of Lovers have issues on their roster. To make a short story, Dr.Love (their captain) is retired, Atom often gets booted in his 3vs3 Africa, Imabelieber never showed up to his tournaments, their Slumlords team have won 1 game but lost 3 and Chris got recently booted on 1 of his 1v1 FB game. Someone of their team will be contacted to see if one of them is willing to fill the position of captain for Love. The main problem I see is that no one can play more than 2 tournament each, so they will have to replace 2 slots of Love and 1 slot of Chris but have only Semice that can play 1 more tourney and MarkusBM that can play one more tournament. They currently have 13 points in 16 games. It is 4 players in total of that team that are retired, missing or just gone in the wild; Belieber, Love, Chris and Atom.

How i arrived at expected ratio of wins?:

For expected ratio of wins, i use the following metric:

I assume a 1st pick beats a 1st pick 50% of the time, a 2nd pick 60% of the time, a 3rd pick 70% of the time etc...

I assume a 2nd pick beats a 1st pick 40% of the time, a 2nd pick 50% of the time etc..

etc..

I think it would be cool to not go tournament-wise, but instead go player wise and see how they have performed compared to when they were picked.

For example, Nox lost all games so far in Guiroma, but won all games so far in Phobia. Let us compute the value of Nox compared to his picking round:

Nox:
Expected ratio of wins = (0.3+0.3+0.3+0.4+0.5+0.4+0.5+0.3)/8 =0.375
Actual ratio of wins = 0.5
Value for draft round picked = 0.5-0.375 = 0.125
So Nox played better than a third round pick.
If Nox was a second round pick, the expected ratio of wins would have been 0.475 ≈0.5, so Nox played like a second round pick.
If Nox was a first round pick, the expected ratio of wins would have been 0.575 > 0.5, so Nox played a bit worse than a first round pick.

Gotta say, the game analysis in this thread is tremendous. Army of Lovers haven't been very loving. Too many boots and that Africa map is an abomination of all things holy in Warlight. But thanks for doing all the work.

100% agree with john, wkanarai's Africa analysis was top notch. Just watched those games :).

I was curious though.. who is Seraph? All this time I thought it was Benoit's alt, but i looked at alternative names and it said Emma, so i assume it is a female, and Benoit is certainly not a female, so I guess it is not Benoit. Is Seraph = Pichu by any chance?

Ranking of teams (so far)

1. IRGEURS are currently first with 72 points overall and 23 games played. The places where they got the most points so far is in the 1v1s and 2v2s. Their mvp so far for 1v1s is GreenTea, with an amazing record of 8-1! Their all-star team is ther Slumlords with a record of 5-0!

2. Exploders have currently the second max points with 117, the second best total points earned with 41 and have completed 18 games so far. Their 3v3 Africa has been stellar so far with 15 points in 3 games! Well done Juan, Waka and Apollo!

3. All Blacks are currently third with 34 points in 22 games. They have a max points of 98 so they are still mathematically in the race for the first place of this competition!

4. The Poop Squad are currently fourth with 26 points in 21 games. They have a max points of 92 and 21 games played. With a current win rate of 33,33%, they really have to pick things up and hope for other clans to fail in order to make their way back to the top of the rankings.

5. SpaceDolphins, despite some unfortunate boot losses, do well with 34 points in 25 games. With a max points of 85, I don't think they can still hope to get first place but maybe they can aim to be in the top 3.

6. Lovers have issues on their team, MoD seemingly the only guy doing well with 4 wins in 7 games, 4 of their 6 wins overall. With a max points of 91, 19 points and only a 30% win rate, I think they will finish last of this season.
