I don't consider myself to be European either, but we're in the EU, and on the European continental shelf, so I'm not retarded enough to completly deny it.

None of this matters anyways, I'm from the North of Ireland therefore I'm in the UK. Bonsai has as much claim to being English as he does being the King of Uganda..

Is Great Britain the same as Britain?

Great Britain and Britain do not mean the same thing.

Great Britain is made up of Scotland, England and Wales, where as Britain is just England and Wales. The name Britain goes back to Roman times when they called England and Wales "Britannia" (or "Britannia Major", to distinguished from "Britannia Minor", ie Brittany in France). The Roman province of Britannia only covered the areas of modern England and Wales. The area of modern Scotland was never finally conquered.

Also, Britain is not a country, it's collection of islands, so why would they say Britian in answer to the question of what county they are from? The answer can only be Scotland or UK. You seem be making a strawman argument.

Ayyyyy, suck on that, Latins. Freedom!

EDIT: Fleecemaster, I don't think you realise how dumb what you're saying is.

I have the choice to label myself "Scottish" or "British". The demonym of the UK, can't be "United Kingdomese", can it? So, obviously people say "British". Is it that hard to grasp? Some people... o_o

Ill play. Preference for start ME SR. I think anybody with UK flag should be accepted as I guess the point is to see who are the best carrier of the flag. Then other countries should do that so winners meet each others. :-))

If we're going to go along these lines then someone from an overseas UK territory would also be British, so people from Gibralter and Falklands would also be "British" and be allowed to join a UK tournament.

Unless we're going with Stixie's definition, and then only people from England and Wales would be British and therefore members of the UK would not be "British" either.

Either you're all wrong, or there is no true definition for British, looks like I might still be right...

However, the tourney is UK players. Therefore, there isn't a debate about Scottish people since they are UK, its just Southern Irish that we're debating since they're not UK. Plus it's fun to tease Plat who tries to pretend he's a certain nationality to get into tourneys :D He tried to convince Awesomeguy that he was an American citizen :D

@ Farah, definitely more qualified than Plat (nod).

Warlight seems to have a pretty solid definition of who is from the UK so maybe just use that to determine who can join?

Edit: Poor Plat isn't allowed to be part of anything :)

People more often these days use "British" to refer to members of the UK, and the Unionists are the ones pushing for us to use it that way. But really people from the UK are whatever they are from. English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish. If you're one of these then you're also from the UK. None of your points make any sense Ox, unless you're a Unionist you're never going to say you're "British"

Heck, I'd never call myself European either. English till I die.

Rebublic of Ireland is defo not part of the UK though, that's for sure, and it's 100% not part of Great Britian (it's a different island) but it is part of the British Isles, that was all my point was. Wether it's "British" or not is just an argument over semantics, which is always pointless.
