Seeing how communication is the easiest thing in the world now, we as the users of the internet are starting to degrade. The internet used to be just forums and educational resources, and the community was much nicer (and smarter). Now, warlight's forums as a prime example, you can notice tons of troll and just plain stupid posts. What have you people to say about this trend? Are we all slowly becoming internet-addicted idiots, or are we completely normal people irl?

The good ol' internet, when trolls and flamewars never existed. Ever heard of Usenet? Heck, even before the internet got popular, local BBSs already had trolls and flamewars. Get used to it. Sounds like you're just catching up. Learn how to deal with it and/or ignore it.

There were always stupid people and there will always be some. But only because others are stupid doesnt make you stupid as well (unless you want it that way). I for example learned alot from the internet (best example for me is English), and seeing how stupid others can be also helped me to understand the world a little bit better.
Only problem is that the smart people are being overwhelmed by the stupid ones, and since the human mind is built to believe what the crowd thinks many people degenrate too.
Just stay smart, only talk to the smart ones or the ones who have the potential to be and you are fine.

I dont think that the internet "community" or the warlight "community" turns bad.
Youre right, there are many trolls in the Internet, but trolling will ever happen. In real life too...
However you can very easy ignore those trolls, very easy. (I strangly dislike those trolls anyway ^^)

By the way, the internet helped me alot with some of my problems.

I think the biggest problem is that people are not choosy consumers. They just consume to consume.

Society rewards being famous for no reason. Look at the Kardashians. What did they do to become famous? People watch reality TV shows about house wives, people who hold on to lots of junk and crap like that. I think that results in people being interested in less and less complex ideas in general. We are entertained by things that we may not have cared about years ago.

I also think with information so accessible, and there being less work to find 'things', we have less of an investment in the information itself. I mean if you had to spend an hour to go to a library, rent a dvd, come home, then see a clip of something...you would certainly be much more choosy with what you spend your time watching. But with everything at our fingertips, it is less of a 'time waster' if you spend 10 seconds getting content than 1 hour. As a result, the expectations on content are so much lower than before.

I guess whether you find this to be a problem or not is your own opinion. Personally, I don't care. If people want to spend their time watching you tube all day...go ahead. But I think it does have a negative effect when people lower their expectations on what is 'newsworthy'. You see it in sports all the time. People are more interested in being first than correct. Maybe if we were a little more choosy on what we ingest from media sources, then media sources would be a bit more choosy with what they deem important.

You would not have all those 'junk' ads on the sides/bottoms of web pages if people did not click on them ever.

It seems to me like there are many people who seem to be new to the Internet all the time. Trolls will always flock to anonymous methods of communication, but it seems too many people take the bait. The bait taken sometimes seems so obviously bait that I wonder if the people taking the bait are other trolls.

Children are becoming less and less intelligent. The school system is completely broken. We should get more choices in our class, but the 4 classes that are useful should be mandatory (+ Lunch)

Things that help society + quality of life of everyone:

Math - Builds problem solving strategies
Science - Climate Change is going to be a big thing + solving world's problems
Technology & Engineering- How else would I write this?
Physical Fitness - Very important to be healthy.

Things that don't help society + quality of life of everyone:

Music - You can learn this out of school
Art - " " " " " " "
English - Auto-correct gets most things, jobs care less and less about how you can write.
History - You should learn how your country works, and it's history. Learning about where gunpowder was invented (China), or how the Egyptians mummified is not going to improve society a bit.
Spanish/Whatever - Want to learn a language? Duolingo while doing whatever > Spanish class.

Personally benj i think you're over generalizing here.

The way science is taught it is rather tasteless.

English class may not be exactly useful (gee, i know how to write an analysis of rhetoric in an essay, great) but I'll be damned if the vocabulary i learned in such a class, the storytelling skills and etc don't consistently help my person.

History is important. If people don't see how things were then, they don't understand why things are how they are. And as the world becomes more and more globalized. ...

LOTE classes i kind of agree. I find it's not for everybody, but i feel smarter for taking those classes personally.

I'll agree wholeheartedly on maths though. Engineers are in demands, at high pays too. The world is always changing, but there's always gonna be a need for engineers.

But is there a better system than banning? I mean, there is tons of needs for improvement on any forum system. But no one has ever changed it since before the Roman empire. Why exile? There has to be a better solution, alts can easily invade

Auto correct? It would be a shame when a computer had to correct your own language. Just stop speaking then. Our complex language is something that differs us from every other animal... would like to keep it that. I cant believe you are too lazy to learn your OWN language. Shame on you.
Google translate? If you were capable to speak more than 1 language you would know that google translate is useful for single words (not even then) but not for complete sentences.
Why you are learning IT? There are people who have a life and dont spend their entire life infront of a computer screen.
Refusing to learn your OWN history is just a shame.
Google maps instead of Geography? Seriously do you want to store all your knowledge on the internet? What if internet is down and you need to find the next town... NYC? Is the capital of Brazil rigth? Ow wait where is Brazil?

I am seriously disppointed by you.

Things that help society + quality of life of everyone:

Math - Builds problem solving strategies

Not really, learning maths helps you do more advanced maths, and eventually advanced sciences. But it builds problem solving strategies in my opinion less than a tongue class, or music (as long as you play something more complex than a drum). In a tongue class, you have to think about words that you don't know, and make a path (phrase) that can makeshift the word.

Science - Climate Change is going to be a big thing + solving world's problems

Science? Science is not one thing, it's 1000+ things, and not all them are useful. Do we really need more linguists? But the branches of physics, chemistry, medicine are all vital, this I do agree on, but don't just lump all the sciences into science.

Physical Fitness - Very important to be healthy.

Not really, if you want to be healthy, fine, as you say for music and tongue, teach yourself. It's way easier than music or tongue - read the nutritions.

Music - You can learn this out of school

I don't see what's wrong with music, it's a bit of recreation while developing a skill that many don't have. And you can't really learn it out of school, it's very hard to, unless perhaps you pay for a tutor.
Art - " " " " " " "

I believe same thing to music applies here, though I think it is easier.
English - Auto-correct gets most things, jobs care less and less about how you can write.

Well, English for me, and English for you, are two different things. You need to know English. And it's preferable if you know it at a mastery, to get into any kind of job which is not manual work.

History - You should learn how your country works, and it's history. Learning about where gunpowder was invented (China), or how the Egyptians mummified is not going to improve society a bit.

You're for nation centric history? Disgusting, the history best to learn about is world history, and international affairs, not what the Qazaq dog hunters of the 1800s. And government is not history - it's Government. But otherwise, I agree.

Spanish/Whatever - Want to learn a language? Duolingo while doing whatever > Spanish class.

Duolingo does not have many important tongues (but don't worry, Irish and Esperanto are there!) like Mandarin or Japanese, and even they advertise themselves as applicable to half a year in university. That's not enough to learn a tongue. A tongue class beats Duolingo by miles.

The way science is taught it is rather tasteless.

Science is spicy and sour. Science is sweet and bitter. Science is sharp and soft. Mainly since science does not exist, there's 1000+ sciences. If that's the way you learned physics, in science, then it had so much taste that your mouth exploded and you were left without taste.

English class may not be exactly useful (gee, i know how to write an analysis of rhetoric in an essay, great) but I'll be damned if the vocabulary i learned in such a class, the storytelling skills and etc don't consistently help my person.

Fine-tuning your tongue is important and helpful. They make you sound smarter, or better to the audience, they help you make speeches, so on.

History is important. If people don't see how things were then, they don't understand why things are how they are. And as the world becomes more and more globalized. ...

Sociology and psychology are the best things that can help you predict things, not history. History is very unimportant, why do you need to understand why things are how they are? I bet you couldn't tell me what a photon does, but you're using very very many at this nanosecond.

English : auto-correct

Your English comes handy in Nab , wath TV Gdohrapy musix. Autocorrect is very far from being good and there are some problems that it will never be able to solve. If you speak like, then noone takes you. You got to know how to write for your audience, this is necessary.

Languages : Use Google translate

There are several online translating engines, but there is only one result: Crap that is quite wrong grammatically, and often incoherent.

Sports : Nab , wath TV

They teach sports at your school? Well, it's bit of pop-culture, I guess I see the grounds for that, and if you mix statistics with that class for betting, that could actually be pretty cool, to engage some students.

IT : WTF am I learning this! I have a fucking PC!

I don't think you are in this class. It's not the computers' past, it's about how to build everything you use on it. Programming is a very growing field, and let's say Fizzer has the same attitude as you, well, you don't get to waste away your life here anymore, or on any video game, if your attitude is that contagious.

Gdohrapy : Google maps

No internet access? Trying to find the best shipping routes? Trying to find a cool place to visit? "Google Maps" won't help a bit here.
Music : I am always learning musix
You already know music? What instrument do you play? Name the notes in B minor. Otherwise, you do not know music, and are learning very slowly.

Physical Fitness - Very important to be healthy.

Math: Only useful to the average person to an extent. Advanced level math is only useful to those in STEM fields and becomes quite useless to those in other positions.
Science: Depends what kind of science. Some parts are more useful than others.
Technology and Engineering: I agree with you partly. It's important that everyone knows how to use technology efficiently. However, not every person needs to know how to build a computer from scratch.

Things that don't help society + quality of life of everyone:

Music - You can learn this out of school
Art - " " " " " " "
English - Auto-correct gets most things, jobs care less and less about how you can write.

Spanish/Whatever - Want to learn a language? Duolingo while doing whatever > Spanish class.

Music: Should be offered, but optional.
Art: Again, should be optional.
English: You can't take auto-correct with you everywhere. Literacy is pretty much the foundation of education. All other subjects aren't worth a dime if people can't read and write effectively.
History: "Those who don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it." Studying history is how we learn from the mistakes of our ancestors and avoid doing the same stupid things. If we can't learn from the past it's a lot harder to move forward.
Spanish/Whatever: I agree, secondary languages should be optional. Unless you plan to leave your home nation you should be able to get by with your primary tongue.

Are the books by CRC Press any good ? You have The *BOOK* of Chemistry by CRC, the *BOOK* of Math by CRC and other books. They make very ambitious encyclopedias that try to cover nearly everything at 99.99%.

Brief Wikipedia Description :

CRC Press specializes in making technical books for all kind of domains as business, mathematics, electronics etc.

Edit :

I don't trust super large books. You may become a "savant by the book". There is some knowledge that you must find by yourself eventually.
