I'd like to play, but I am confused at how the matchup/team process will work.

So I play with 2 random people against 3 random people. We win. What happens next? Those 6 people go into the pool of random players and form new teams?

Yes and somehow we get rated and eventually get paired up with ransoms of our rating....

I'm following MW and knytes advice, so yes.
