Hey, I'm going to try anyways.

Oh boy...

32 players will participate in this tournament.

There is a group-stage. There will be 4 players in 8 groups.

I will seed players into 4 pots. Each pot will be named A B C D. A is the better players D is the worser players. 8 players will be A. 8 players will be B. 8 players will be C. 8 players will be D.

Each group will be in the format in ABCD.

I will draw these groups randomly.

When the groups are made. Each player in a group must play each other once. 1 point for the winner. 0 for the loser.

In the group-stage there are 2 qualifying spots. 1st and 2nd. 3rd and 4th will be knocked out to a second tier competition called the "Europa League"

Than it is a simple knock-out system of the remaining 16 players in both the Europa League and Champions League.



Now.. 1. I want to know If there are people interested and available for this tournament.
2. From people who have created tournaments, Could you see this working.

I am 100% commited to making this work. Which I believe can. So people, Give your reactions.. And cmon don't be dicks It's an idea that is worth trying out..

If I do get positive feedback and reasons to why this can work.. I will do the changes to make that happen.. I'm more making this tournament function than worrying about the template or auto-boot or time or anything to do with that.

sounds ok, how are you planning on deciding which players are the better ones?

On many factors... (Go and hate me people)

This is on the top of my head.

1. Clan
2. 1v1 Record
3. Experience in tournaments.
4. Tournament wins.
5. Experience in Warlight.

Of course there are flaws in these factors but.. It is a rough-way of putting players in these pots. I put it this way It will prevent a group of 4 elite players playing against each other which is something we don't want.

For each group in the group stage, you could use a standard Round Robin tournament. I think there's a limit of how many tournaments you can run at a time, but there are two possible ways to deal with that: 1) Just ask everyone to be patient until all the tournaments are done, sequentially, 2) Have some other players help out by creating tournaments with identical settings, splitting up the invites between the helpers.

After the round robins, you could just use two standard single-elimination tournaments for the two leagues.

My main question is how do you perform the initial seeding into pots A, B, C, and D?

There may be an issue with the round-robins producing multiple ties, so that you can't determine who the top 2 are, but I'm not sure if this is actually a problem or not, since I'm not that familiar with tournaments yet.

I think your main obstacles will be 1) Not enough people signing up, 2) dealing with people who sign up but fail to actually participate, and/or get booted early on. But I guess that's a general problem with tournaments anyway. Are you high enough level to use Open Seat Pre-requisites? If so, you could filter by boot rate, and that may help mitigate non-participation.

Sorting by clan is a bad idea. Ask an elite player to help you sort the players, or do it by ladder statistics. 1v1 record, tournament experience are also not a good way to sort people. It really comes down to ladder statistics and an elite player who can look through some games by that player and decide where they belong.

ladder stats are probs the best idea, it's quite possible to get lucky in a tournament, as I proved. Ladders are over a lot more games so are more reliable.

Right, Time for me to explain how this tournament will operate.

How to put players into pots of ABCD.

JSA method seems to be the the most consistent. Which will help with players in the ladders. The Elite player may help me to decide where players should go if they are not in the ladder.

How will the groups operate.

I will (manually at home draw the groups for my sanity) and post them on Warlight as I would be the host.

How will the knock-out stages work?

Players who finish 1st and 2nd may enter the champions league Knockout stage.

Player who finish 3rd and 4th may enter the Europa league knockout stage.

It will be split knockout stages.. They will be manually invited to each tournament.

How will I decide the groups?

I will have 4 bags. Each of them labelled A B C D.. Each will have 8 players inside them. The group format will be A B C D. So I would pick one from Bag A.. 1 from Bag B.. 1 from Bag C 1 FROM Bag D.

I know it doesn't seem 100% solid but.. If you have problem trusting me.. Well thats your problem not mine.

I think you have to clarify that if a player dont join the game and is not reponding in the gruop stage games. they have to contact you. Also time limits?

1. There must be a written explanation to the tournament host (me) for abandonment or no participation is match. Failure to do so will be put to expulsion.

2. Founding of using alts will be punished as quickly and as severe. Founding of the main account following the alt. Will result in the two Accounts being banned from the tournament.

3. The Host has the final say in awarding of games/Expulsion or anything to due in this tournament.

4. Abuse to the host or to any player will result in a awardment of a match.

Any rules I feel that have to be put on this list will be added.

This sounds fun, I'll join it. It would be nice to come back to the game and get right back into leagues and stuff.

I will play if you need a 32nd player. Otherwise I would like to help organize this. If I am not competing I think I can sort players into seeds without a bias. I assume you want to play and this will give you a bias. I am also willing to help find templates or create tournaments.

Well I will play. With regards to the group stage I think these a best done creating small private (not like there is much choice for public these days) RR tourneys with the 4 players in that group (assuming it's the same template all though the group). I think it's quite a long shot to get the players to create the games themselves, but also in the knock-out fase you or your helpers just need to make the games and invite the 2 players, who are supposed to play (assuming you want the 1st vs. 2nd from their respective groups feature, otherwise it is just making another tourney inviting the players who went on from group stages). There will likely be a problem with people not joining, but just count that as a loss after a predefined amount of time. So I think this migth very well work.

Nice concept. For the first season you can manually seed players. However, after that it should be based on results in the previous seasons(like how champions league coefficients work).

That sounds tedious and I can easily see this holding up the league because of inactive players(or pairs). Why can this not be a RR tournament with auto boot which respects vacations?


I'd like to play, as long as the template is reasonable.

Figure he'd put a vote up on which template -everyone- agreed on, but if not I figured it would be the same one as the 1v1 Ladder (Not RT)
