Carbon dating does not work... carbon does not exist in fossils. You always have to find a piece of carbon with the fossil, and presuming the fossil and the carbon sample have been there the same length of time, you can come to a conclusion. It is highly doubtful that this is a good, reliable source of information especially after recent research with regards to the experts of the palaeontology field.

Yet another ignorant statement by colonel Harthacanute. I'll let you in on a little secret: carbon dating is not used for fossil nor to determine the age of the earth. So everything you wrote is complete bullshit that you learnt i don't know where, but certainly not in a science class.

edit: i actually hadn't fully read you post before the reply, so i hadn't measure how wrong you were. Even for carbon dating, we do not need to find "a piece of carbon" near to the thing we want to date. Carbon is the basis of life. Everything that was once alive has carbon in it. In fact this is the basis of carbon dating (we can't date rock with carbon dating for example)

This thread has been entertaining.

I find evolutionary science fascinating (though not quite as cool as Physics or Chemistry). I believe in God. I don't particularly mind if other people choose not to believe evolution happened, but I believe it did happen. The evidence is overwhelming, and while God could have planted the evidence, I see no logical reason for him to do so.

Evolution does occur. The problem is that nobody can say how the universe came into existence. Evidence is different from proof.

The main part of Evolution that I do not follow is the long-term part of it, where a creature resembling nothing like a human eventually turns into one. I can believe in minor changes, such as larger brains and body sizes due to better nutrition and such, but farther than that and it gets difficult for me to believe.

And if you have lots and lots of small changes you`ll see a big change when only looking to the begin and the end. If you can understand the small changes, the big ones should make sense as well. They don`t happen over night ;)

Evidence is different from proof.

Proof is just a theoretical concept. It exists in theory, you can use proof in mathematics for example.But in reality, i.e natural science, absolute proof doesn't exist.
Here is one definition of a scientific fact/truth (see the previous link):

An assertion for wich there is so much evidence that is would be perverse to deny it

wich is another way to say evidence beyond reasonnable doubt (wich is th standard of evidence requiered on court room)
