Huge congratulations to Min34, who has taken down Rufus in the final, after defeating Buns and myself! Super impressive, and our latest addition to the still small circle of title winners!
Well fought, Rufus, you are now officially the first player to both be part of the group of winners and runners-up! Your personal curse of not winning any tournament on a template of your own choice continues.
The number of runner-up finishes is counted behind the slash. For the ranking, generally, the number of wins will be considered; only the ranking of players without any wins or an equal number of wins will be based on the number of runner-up finishes.
For example: A player with 6 runner-up finishes will be ranked ahead of a player with 5 runner-up finishes, but behind a player with 1 win.
This statistic is intended to be updated after every tournament in a new post. Inform me about any errors or lacking data. In the event that there will be a yearly final tournament among the best winners, this ranking will be used to determine who qualifies.
In case of a tie, the most recent winner will be preferred. There will never be two players with the same rank. For players without any win, the recency of the last runner-up finish decides.
Technically, the runner-up curse is still alive, as Rufus has been a winner before becoming also a runner-up. Noone has yet succeeded in obtaining a win after obtaining a runner-up position. Let's see how long this is going to hold!
Thanks for your input, Lionheart. There are a few arguments I have considered when I designed the format and decided not to do that.
- In a single elimination tournament, there is no difference between 3rd and 4th place. - In tournaments with low participation, it can be very easy to make the semifinals. At least once, a player has accomplished that with boots alone already. Being on the leaderboard should be something special. - A tie can still happen if semifinals participations were considered in the ranking. I feel like "most recent winner preferred" is a fair and simple compromise.
If there is a lot of interest in this statistic, though, I can provide it in a post after a set number of tournaments.
Perhaps someone who has already won coins? So far, the only donor who has won anything is MetalGear4.5 (one runner-up finish). It would be sweet if one of the winners chose to make a contribution some time :)
Speaking of winners - let's play a little game. In which edition of TT do you think the runner-up curse will be broken (a runner-up scoring their first win)? Tomorrow's tournament will be the 14th. I say that by the 17th tournament, an existing runner-up will win.
I don't mind donating some, but 1500 coins for a RT tourney is already plenty I think.
I'll donate some for next week tho, so that has a slightly higher coin price too. Otherwise you get a bunch of 500 coin tournaments and one 3000 coin tournament.
@stefano: I was having some second thoughts because of course I couldn't double any donation. However, I have observed how higher prize TT tournaments yield higher participation and coverage/interest, so I decided to promote that anyways!
it's sad that noone is taking advantage of this opportunity to bankrupt alexclusive.
I would love to do that, but it has 2 major downsides: 1. I would bankrupt myself too 2. If alex goes bankrupt, then who pays for the TT tourneys going forward?
