Executive Summary #6:

Everything started with the question: "How can we make Warzone more popular"

From what I gathered, the short answer is this 6-step guide below;

1) Make the game more "new-player friendly"

1.1) Terminate Auto-Changing Settings
  • Instead of changing player settings automatically, ask players if they wanna change (so many new players quit because they thought Warzone App got broken due to auto-changing start-up screen + so many new players quit because they got overwhelmed by never ending games due to auto-enabling auto-invite)
1.2) Better Tutorials
  • Develop detailed tutorials for each official template + For commerce, commanders etc.
1.3) Improve the Level-Up System
  • Focus on participation, not wins (new players shouldn't be try-hards) + Make each level-up more rewarding (Coins, articafts, colorful text etc.) + Make all settings accessible to all players (at least for single-player custom games)
1.4) Separate Win-Rate & Ratings System
  • WR only effected by: Tourneys, Open Games etc. | Ratings only effected by: QM, Ladders etc. + WR should only be effected by last 100 games (like booting rates)
1.5) Player-friendly GUI
  • More emphasis on QM, Less emphasis on Open Games (Open Games are confusing for new players)
1.6) Better, Standardized Official Templates
  • Remove: SEAD (on CW), 4FFA (on QM), S2V2 (on WZI Arena) | Add: Diplo templates (on QM), AIs vs Players template (on QM), Small Earth Multi Attack (on CW) etc.


2) Update some old ineffective mechanics

2.1) Improve Matchmaking Systems
  • Every player should face people from their skill level
2.2) Better Single-player
  • Shorter levels + Rewards for finishing each level (especially with gold star) + Better levels which are similar to official template settings + Superior AI etc.
2.3) Improved "Accidental Commit" System
  • i.e. If most of your armies didn't moved, double check the commit button
2.4) Multiple Clan Settings
  • When making a new clan, player get to choose if they want capped or uncapped clan but uncapped clans can't play the game competitively (no CW, no CL etc.)
2.5) Rebranding/Renaming
  • Go back to WarLight if able to, it will be important on marketing campaign step
2.6) Wheel Spin Cooldown Reduction
  • Its currently every 16 hr, let's make it 8 hr (To reduce the coin gap with players from top clans + To encourage players to play more frequently + To increase Fizzer's advertisement revenue)
2.7) Better Warzone Idle
  • Players can choose which arena (QM) template they'll play with (2v2 arenas are broken) + mortars should worth the cost + make Idle actually idle (soften/remove the "finish level in X days to earn Y" conditions)


3) Utilize the community to increase visibility of the game (Youtube, Twitch etc.)

3.1) Find a Voice & Image of Warzone
  • Everyone will subscribe to him and help him become popular to increase the visibility of this game
3.2) Warzone Community Newsletter
  • All trends, dramas, game changes will be gathered & summarized in a single place to make community more informed and engaging
3.3) More Accessible Information
  • All community accumulated knowledge about WZIdle, Official Templates etc. should be gathered in a single place like Wiki/Forum/Drive etc. + Community should work to protect and improve this accumulated knowledge
3.4) Special Clans To Help New Players
  • When a new player starts playing the game, game can force that player to go into a clan after the initial tutorial ends, through "Join a clan" page (they can leave the clan whenever they want, its just to show how to join a clan). They can join these new clans dedicated to help new players which will help them understand the game quickly while keeping them engaged with the community


4) Fizzer needs to start an aggressive marketing campaign

5) Fizzer needs to recruit a small developer team to keep the game trendy

6) Maintain the cycle "More players > More revenue > More advertisement" for infinity



Other Suggestions

a) When creating a game, if specifically a 1v1 QM template is used, there can be a an option to search players from QM (with ranking similar to person creates the game) as well. So that players can find another player faster
- Didn't included with the rest because this was too small and convoluted

b) Advanced filtering options for Open Games (you can look for games with specific settings etc.)
- Didn't included with the rest because Open Games already have just a few games, this filtering will make the options feel even less

Diplo templates are way too long for QM RT. All QM templates should be playable at a quick speed. Simply because it's in the name Quickmatch. Many templates for more then 2 players are too big with too long waiting times.

For the AI's it could also be nice to have some sort of level system. Stronger AI's for players who like that and the current AI's for the other players.

For Idle it's really nice to have the faster playing rewards. Those are a good stimulation for getting faster in Idle. It's also a good thing to know if you're fast enough and have invested in the right artifacts and AP points. The battle (at least on PC) should lag a lot less, but that's more like a bug thing.

All clans should have the same possibilities for size. So remove the clan cap again or make all clans capped. Having megaclans isn't that bad, it's worse when clans have 3 brother clans who are helping eachother in competions.

Never force players into a clan. Letting players see how to join a clan is ok.

Players will improve through experience and playing many games.

That's what I thought. The diplo templates conflict with shorter waiting time.

Never force players into a clan. Letting players see how to join a clan is ok.

They are not gonna like it.

But no, quickmatches (should?) mean quick start of game, not quick end of game.

While QM means "get a match quickly" not "finish a match quickly", also remember that most games end up as RT (MD setting is available but most play RT), so games with super long timers just aren't realistic as they end up causing players to be stuck to WZ for hours on end playing 1 single game; if people realize that going in and still want to play, go wild; but most probably won't recognize that a game on a large map with a 5+ boot timer could go 50+ turns = easily 3+ hrs and even more if 1 player decides to play slowly (it happens)

Those types of games don't belong in QM imho, just create them yourself and put them in the open game list

Also QM is only good for finding players who are searching for the same template simultaneously; and odd games like that (huge maps, big boot timers, 3+ players) will take a long time to fill if ever, resulting in people doing other things while waiting = getting booted T1 = bad candidate for QM

I also want to ask you 1 more time to change bullet 1.6 in your summaries. It is primarily you who wants to remove SEAD from CW, definitely no consensus. My suggestions point to the opposite: more SE templates, including SE templates with balanced starts for a more level playing field.


As far as the "elite gang" is concerned. They are a tiny minority of hardcore players. But they want to DOMINATE vast majority of non-hardcore WZ players in each and every game mode and competition. They are not satisfied with bragging rights for their achievements in CL, ladders etc., oh no: they also wnat their "elite clans" to dominate CW and in their "spammed to all" FC Bayern and alexclusive tourneys they want to farm newbs and casual players for XP and coins. That's all there is to this whole "controversy".

Sick and tired of those elitists.

Busy players like me will NEVER have time for that.

really fed up with the "elitists". they love the current wz system, bc it serves them an ongoing stream of new and casual players as cheap cannonfodder. that's why they are opposed to any changes that would privide are more level playing field and a more enjoyable game experience for 99% of non hardcore players.

No, there already are many things good of this site. And there are some improvements really useful. Like helpful information and players who can play matches against other of their own skill.

But not every idea is equally great and useful. Some points are really bad. See this whole thread for it ;p

I'll say it one last time: Noone is interested in "cannon fodder", it's much more fun to play opponents at least on your own level. That's why the strategic community has been advocating elo rating systems since many years effectively unanimously. I have no idea where your assumptions are coming from to be honestly.

Diplo templates are way too long for QM RT.
- Diplo template proposition is for MD. There is an auto invite option, so waiting will not be an issue (as long as you check the game every 3 days)

For the AI's it could also be nice to have some sort of level system
- If we get AI's that are actually good, yea, this would be nice for new players

Those are a good stimulation for getting faster in Idle
- Literally the game's purpose is to play idle, if you wanna go try-hard on idle, go ahead, but you shouldn't be punished by not going try-hard

All clans should have the same possibilities for size
- We already talked about this. Not all clans exist for the sake of CW. Clans like Cats, Harmony, Darklords just wanna chill and hang out together, as long as they are not harming the game, there is no problem. Please stop trying to destroy their way of enjoying the game

It is primarily you who wants to remove SEAD from CW
- You want a modified version of SEAD, if you modify it, name must be changed (or confusion would start) so even if you're aware of it or not, you want something different than SEAD (even if its still Small Earth and still Auto Distribution)

they also wnat their "elite clans" to dominate CW
- CW is the only competitive place where you compete with others as a clan (since CL is not operated by Fizzer, I don't recognize it as official). As a MH member who "likes to stick it to elites" I know how you feel but best clans should win CW, not casual players. However, there shouldn't be too much gap between try-hards and casuals in terms of CW rewards
