Being competitively outstanding is no prerequisit to join Clan League.
In theory, yes- nothing in the design of CL (just a clan P/R league on 1v1/2v2/3v3 templates) prevents it from scaling to the entire active community. In practice, CL has barriers to entry that select heavily for top players. Fizzer hit on something (on Samurai Jack's podcast) when he said CL was for the "1% of elite players." I'm a mediocre player by CL standards, would probably have a tough time (2-4?) in Div. B... and I'm still much better than the average player.

To participate in CL (sign up and play all your games), you need:
- a clan that's got its act together,
- time availability to support a multi-month commitment, and
- enough skill that the clan will use one of its limited slots on you

All of these are pretty hard, relative to the degree to which people prioritize video games in their life. You need to find your way into or build a clan that's got enough dedicated individuals who care about strategy gaming, and you need to be someone that clan will put forward on their roster. CL's structure as a P/R league innately limits its player pool. The only low-barrier-to-entry competitive strat event is the ladder system (just sign up, get games, leave whenever), and we can see in the big participation gap between the 1v1/2v2/3v3 ladders how much of a burden coordination costs (even when you just need 1 ladder partner, and you make a very nonspecific commitment, mostly just to take your moves in your games) have.

I don't think a clan like Prime will have fun in Clan League. It's a lot of work only to get thrashed, and most of the players currently have no interest in strat play. From experience, I think it takes inordinate effort to take a clan that's fundamentally uninterested in strat and contains overwhelmingly sub-1500 (1v1 Ladder) players into one that will play in CL for two seasons instead of just collapsing in one or not bothering to join.

This is why I think an Interclan Ladder is something the community should build, as a low-friction competitive & casual multi-day inter-clan level event. (If anyone's interested, pls DM me. I have a good idea of a design but don't have the time to build it entirely by myself; if we can get 2-3 people, though, we could probably build it before CL17.)

How does it work? Do you have to inform anybody who has contact with you that you are a sex offender?
Yes. When I say "gg" it doesn't mean "good game" or "git gud" but rather "get away! groomer" which is what I'm supposed to yell as loudly as I can when I find out I may be within proximity of a dog. On the internet no one knows who is and isn't a dog, and that makes life online very challenging for a dog groomer like me.

@knyte

I generally feel that people care the most about the division where rankings are the closest. Considering that Masters was sure to win long before CL had ended last season, I saw more stuff about other divisions than about A. So as long as you can come up with a lineup, I think CL can be a lot of fun for semi-casual clans as long as they don't lose like all games in Div D, which is a skill requirement any active clan except for Cats fulfills at the moment.

PS: There is also the option to join in with another clan if your capacity alone doesn't allow for a lineup. Even we did that many times (Lynx and 101st with FC, 101st with ACME, Lynx with GG, Lynx with Outlaws...)

CL sucks because it is prestigious. It has an image of competition for elite clans. Changes which would allow more flexibility for lower div clans and players, which would make have lower divisions have fewer slots or which the ability for multiple clans to create coalitions and fight for one meta-clan without merger wouldn't really attract smaller clans, unless the image changes.

@l4v.r0v In our defense, none of us have sub-1500 ratings in the 1v1 ladder because none of us actually are participating in the ladder. I'm confident that a decent % of the clan could easily get a 1500+ rating if they joined the ladder. We've got members that have beat some really high rated Myth Busters, M'Hunters and similarly skilled players in strategic 1v1/2v2 templates in CW which is especially impressive when you take into account how little they've actually played these templates before. I think there's three reasons why we aren't in CL or the ladders much

1) we don't like the templates / not enough to play it often
2) we don't like the serious nature of it
3) I haven't asked if anyone wants to do CL or looked into it

Looking into CL now though... and it seems off putting. The feeling I get initially is that it's convoluted and a pain rather than much fun. Maybe it's just being sleep deprived as to why I think that, I've never participated before, what's the minimum amount of members needed to join?

Clan League is as serious as you want it to be.

Take Clan Wars as example.
You can take it crazy serious like those clans who remember you for certain time slots and you are called out for not playing some days in a row. That is certainly what I could not enjoy. Or you play it casually, whenever you notice the button is flashing.

The only difference is that CW is Real Time and CL is MultiDay. In both formats you have casual players and tryharders. You will find more (but not only) tryharders in Division A and more casual players in Division D, that is where you would start. The main thing is that you have fun.

To joi you would need at least 6 players, but can have up to 18 playing players.

If you stop bringing elitism into Division D, I can stop revealing the elitism in top Clan Wars clans ;P

I am not talking about Division A, there you find also clans that try to push their performance. That is the same for the best Clan Wars Clans pushing their members to its maximum. But you compare Premier League with a county league here.

I am talking about Division D (where new clans [like Prime] would start). All talk about how elitist Clan League is. This might be true for Division A, but certainly not for Division D. It is just false to bring this elitism in for Division D.

When we started with Hawks in Clan League 7 we had an enormous boot rate, but got 2nd last still. That was great for first season. The first time we ever promoted was in CL11. And? What is wrong with tha to.just have fun enjoying the game?

Btw Prime is still recruiting to stay at the topic :D

Sure if you can help with organization that alleviates most of my concern. I've organized newcomer clans for CL twice before (CORP for CL7, TLW for CL8) and just managing that is burdensome for the clan point of contact, unless the clan itself is already enthusiastic about participating. But if we have external support there and go in with low expectations, I think NEET King would be able to pull it off.
