Hi, im gonna delete my account, and im testing what it has for effects.

To test what happens to forums, I am making this one. There is no button yet that links to the account delete page: https://www.warzone.com/Account/Delete

There is also no reason to delete an account, but im testing it anyways.

Here is some stuff that i joined, it will be interesting to see if they are still around later:
  • Profile https://www.warzone.com/Profile?p=25145296588
  • Profile looked like this: https://i.imgur.com/NBE7Unh.png
  • Finished game: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=30268280
  • Unstarted tourney: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer/Tournament?ID=47717
  • Started tournament: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer/Tournament?ID=47716
  • Game thats still going (no autoboot): https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=30268452
  • Some random FFA: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=30268410
  • Game hosted by me: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=30268622
  • A game thats not started yet: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=30268531

Alright, so here are some conclusions:
  • The account page of the deleted account is no longer accessible
  • The account gets renamed to (deleted)
  • When you try to view a delete account from a not updated app, the app crashes
  • A delete player does not auto-leave anything: not its games, not its (double elimination) tourneys, not its clan.
  • The account keeps its profile picture and tagline (still visible in games)

  • Lucky, forums and mails keep existing
  • The account deletion process looks like this:

  • You can re-use your email adres to create a new account

Maybe the button is primarily for legal reasons. Under the GDPR, EU citizens have the right to request a company to delete all their data. I always intuitively thought that this would not apply to US websites but a quick internet research shows that this might actually not be the case.

I did, mostly the check if it auto removes you from the clan.

Yeah, apparently the delete button is gonna be easier to find on mobile, so maybe Google/Apple has something to do with it as well.
Either way, it doesnt appear that Fizzer want many players to delete their accounts, since there is currently no way to reach the page, besides from the blog or the link from this forum.

So does account deletion not change the level? Or was that deleted account at some other level and had its level reset to 4?

If this was forced by GDPR, which I doubt, it wouldn't be sufficient to bring Warzone into compliance. Under GDPR and CCPA, the only personal data I think Warzone stores on its users would be names (in old usernames), emails, and whatever personal data users share in chats/etc. (not sure if GDPR/CCPA cover this). While email deletion has always been trivial (just change your account email), removing personal names from old usernames would also require updating all the references to personal names, e.g., in the names of QM and ladder games. This delete button does not change that and so, if Warzone faces a legal requirement to remove users' IRL names beyond what could be already achieved by changing usernames, it does not meet it.

For that and other reasons, I doubt the motivation here is compliance with existing laws, which have been around for years.

I was level 4 before, and I still am level 4. But I dont see how level is personal information in any way, so I dont see a reason to reset it either.

I also forgot to mention one thing in the post with results, mostly because it didnt happen:
  • No announcement is made in clan chat of either the account being deleted or the name being changed.

This is a problem. especially for new clans that are already very limited by the 40 member cap.
I agree that auto-kicking players from the clan shouldnt happen, but at least notify the clan of it, so they can be removed manually asap.

Additionally, it is also not possible to delete an account that is currently suspended.

Presumably PMs and in-game chats with the deleted account also just become text to/from (deleted)
