Warzone Mod Makers' Jam w/ Fizzer: 1/10/2022 22:40:47

Today on Stream, Fizzer talked about the new update, which included many new Mod-making features to play with for us Mod Makers, Map Designers, and Scenario Builders to play with.

During the course of the stream said Fizzer would be interested in participating in a Dev Jam type event. I wanted to post this thread to gather initial interest for participants and volunteer staff for a weekend jam.

My initial prospectus would put the Jam at least a couple months out to have new features sink in and ideas germinate. (As well as to give staff time to drive a little PR and organization).

If you're interested, post up a reply stating your interest in participating (and maybe some about yourself.) I'll start:

I'm KingEridani -- I'm primarily a scenario designer, have some coding experience, but primarily have run online gaming conventions before and project management and have the desire to organize a Jam for our more development capable community members.

That's a good idea! I would really like to participate :)

Hi everyone,
I'm Just_A_Dutchman_, mod enthousiast, mod author, mod analyser and brainstorming machine. For those who don't know me, I've been playing Warzone for over a year now and about 4 months ago I started modding. Right now I have 1 public mod (AI's don't play cards), 2 mods coming soon (Randomized Nonogram and Local Deployment Helper) and 1 mod which can be deleted since it was a Better Gift Armies mod xD.

I have started many projects (The Dutchman league, manuals for every mod on Warzone and an likely upcoming modded game series) and I've set my aim to make mods understandable and playable for every player. I've been playing modded games for a long time now and don't like how a lot of players drop out before the game really has started due to a lack of mod understanding which I'm trying to tackle. These manuals don't and won't exist out of just explanation how the mods work but also strategies I use which help me win a lot of modded games (for those who seek to confirm this you can ask krinid xD)

forum post to the mod manuals: https://www.warzone.com/Forum/593024-modded-warzone?Offset=0
If you want to contribute to this, yes please! there are a lot of mods and alone it would take me at least 3 months...

Hey Dutchman, thanks for your mission and efforts! We warzone makers all benefit from your work.

Would you be interested to staff for the Jam? Maybe we can run tournaments/streams/events of some kind relating to mods during the Jam weekend to drive participation (and find potential coders hiding in the playerbase).

I'm in. There has been 1 aspect of the LMA mod I haven't been able to overcome that stopped me from releasing an update to it. Maybe Fizz can guide on how to achieve it.

And maybe a couple of ideas brewing too.

I bet TBest is excited about the TERRITORY SELECTOR finally being available! I know I am.

Do you need somebody to give you suboptimal ideas for mods?

Maybe we could collect a big book of mod requests/suggestions. On one of those websites with public upvoting so we could get some quantification on what mod issues are most important to (or at least popular with) the community

I've already got a little list of ideas and wanted to send a form out from time to time to see which ideas are favored by the community xD
but i agree having some sort of upvoting website would be absolutely great!

Good idea, have a few main topics we collectively want to talk about. And limit the ideas only to folks who actually have shown interest in mod making. Don't want it to get diluted to people who really have no reason to be there but tying up cycles of the session time, possibly even asking questions that us community mod-makers can answer just as easily.

If you have ever coded at all, you should be able to pick it up in about 15 mins, just by looking at existing mod code. Tbh, you'll spend more timing look up how to do stuff within the WZ framework than how to code it in LUA, b/c that's the tricky part.

Fortunately these new mods give us a lot of code to reference and pull from.

RE: Mod direction/feedback collection

I have some experience with customer facing stuff in the development heavy start up world. I think we can split actual projects and crowd-proposals/feedback with proper visibility.

Collating active modding efforts to display will require a little bit of a mod-makers community and some outreach.

Some of our essential makers have already put themselves forth. I'll throw together a discord and send out wzmail invites and we can work out community/participation levels from there.
