oftentimes there is so much cr*p clogging up GC - eg. early morning my time - that it is best to BL the main trolls, so you don't have to see it. If you miss some of those convos ... it is a good thing, not negative. ALso importantly, the more players BL the trolls, the less of a stage they will have. That's why accounts like Loxii, DEC etc. are so opposed to my BL strategy.

Simply BL the 5 most annoying accounts in GC and see how thing clear up and improve for you.

Why is this in the Help forum? Seems out of place.

Anyhow, blacklist on GC would be much more helpful if it were two-way. It would give away that you've blocked someone, but it would also make blocking players more meaningful than just turning off your own visibility to their content. Like how blocking works on most social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

Global Chat is also really noisy with the audio pings. There should be some sort of cool down for when conversations start, except ofc for when RaffleBot shows up.

1. can't see any other forum where this topic would be better placed. And it may well be of HELP to lnecomers / less experienced players annoyed by tons of GC trolling, spam and flatulences.

2. i like the unilateral blocking here. That way i don't have to read what trolls write. But trolls have to read what i write and possibly be annoyed - unless they also block me. However, trolls / spammers don't want to do that - they want maximum audience.

3. Also trolls never knowing, whether others present in GC have blocked them or not, reduces attractiveness of GC trolling.

All of which I like. Because trolling is not effectively moderated away in GC, this is the best option available to all "normal players" to combat GC trolls, spammers and toxics.

after crunching the numbers my computer tells me that blocking the creator of this forum will lead to a 5 fold improvement in your gc experience

It's not that it's not _effectively_ moderated, it's that it's _not_ moderated (at all). Trolling in itself isn't an offense. They actually have to be rude/lewd/offensive, curse, spam, etc. Some trolling takes the form of these things, so the mute hammer would fall in that case - but it's for those behaviours, not the trolling itself.

Unfortunately there's more than enough rude/lewd/offensive trolling I've seen in GC that was not moderated away. Plus loads of all sorts of other trolling, which good/decent/normal players should not have to face. That's why we can and should take the additional measure to simply and quickly blocklist annoying posters. It does greatly improve our global chat experience.

Based on raffle participation, the Global Chat user base is <1% of the active player base. Not only that but blacklists have no effect on the most common interactions in this game- site-created auto-games, manually-created games, forum posts, and off-site (e.g., Discord) communications. The Warlight blacklist is so underpowered that it doesn't even do the one thing a "block" function is supposed to do: provide a last-ditch red button in case of targeted harassment. They could still invite you to games or keep responding to existing DM threads.

Even if nonolet blacklists far less selectively than he currently does, his game experience will remain largely the same.

The real solution is to stop being a worthwhile target for trolls: by not reacting, remaining friendly, or turning the tables. On that note, the reaction to this thread demonstrates the opposite of nonolet's interpretation: by advertising who he blacklists, he has, as the kids say, "posted cringe" and spurred trolls who now find him a more attractive target by continuing to react to them. nonolet is a steady dopamine stream for trolls.

It's really not hard to deal with trolls, even if you are a fellow cringe-poster. Virtually all of them have deep insecurities, and sometimes even a casual, polite, and respectful reminder that they're poor does the trick and gets them out of your hair.

it works very well. trolls are not able to molest me any longer. all those nutcases can do is post in this thread, which i will also stop to watch or react to soon.

no need to deal with the trolls, spammers, nutcases any longer. simply BLOCK them out of your game experience. trolls begone, lol!
