when I see a clan's cw rating, I just see a number. it can be either high or low but I don't have anything to relate it to.
is there a maximum rating? and what is the average good/bad rating? someone may have worked on this already.

In Muli's userscript's Search function, you can see the Clans ranked by Clan War rating. Your clan is currently #65 when ranked by Clan War Rating, around the same rating as Cats, {rp}, Harmony, KingKong, and ODI mafia:












Clan War Ratings use some variant of TrueSkill, per some apocryphal discussion during the early days. If you want to understand how TrueSkill works, you can check out MoserWare's classic article: http://www.moserware.com/2010/03/computing-your-skill.html. But in general think of these as Elo-like win expectancy ratings computed at the clan level, so your wins/losses are treated as clan wins/losses (i.e., you are all one player: your clan).

There is likely no maximum rating. The minimum is 0.

Clan War Rating isn't designed to be used for ranking clans, so the decisions made (e.g., minimum rating of 0) align better with using it for matchmaking in Clan Wars and keeping win rates around 50%. i would advise against trying to optimize your Clan War Rating. If you want to highlight how good your clan is, do so through its performance on Clan Wars, MTL, the ladders, and the QM leaderboards.

If you want to maximize it, however, you can do so by:

- Increasing the participation in CW of the better players in your clan
- Encouraging players to play on templates where they perform better (win% is going to stabilize at 50%, ofc, but you have external metrics to tell you how good someone is at any of these templates)
- Having your players improve in their performance (in Elo/QM rating/MTL rating/etc.) terms on the Clan Wars templates

As for what constitutes a "good" Clan War Rating, I'd say you enter the company of acknowledged decent/good clans around 180-200. But Clan War Rating isn't really a way to build credibility as a strategic powerhouse, absent compelling performances on the ladders and in Clan League. It's taken seriously only insofar as it places the right clans (MASTER, Python) at the top but when you see other clans having high CW Ratings (e.g., PKU58ers, Republic of Korea), most people won't interpret that as meaning those clans are better than, e.g., M'Hunters or FCC. Clan League and MTL performance are still the authoritative measures of clan skill.

@kallisti/JK_3: Muli has his own database of Warzone clan data that his userscript queries from maak.ch; if you open the Network tab when using the Userscript's Search modal, you'll notice these queries. Update 5.12 (which moved clan pages from HTML to UJS) broke the pathway used for identifying clan creators. So clans created since then have had "unknown" creators.

If you want to populate that data yourself, contact Muli.

Alternatively, I think the Recover Clan functionality could maybe be used as a new way of finding the clan creator, now that clan pages no longer have Report buttons.

No clue. Plus I think any discussion of Warzone API internals may get a post quietly deleted since it gets close to discussing how to break ToS by reverse-engineering Warzone APIs.

@Chaos, our rating fluctuates too much. We had peaked at ~250, but are about 150-230 now.... We play more cw games than you guys, so its obvious ours will fluctuate more, but that doesnt mean your clan has more skilled players... We play all templates, and are often fighting against masters or mh.

I find it ridiculous you have to download a player's private userscript to see this table. Surely to god this should be implemented on the main site by Fizzer himself? What's the point of giving each clan a clan war rating if you can't compare it to others? Why have it on each individual clan page instead of on a overall page?

Clan War Rating is for matchmaking, not ranking purposes. There's already a Clan Wars ranking with a neat map visual.

Why would it be an efficient use of Fizzer's time to reimplement something that the community has already implemented? Wouldn't you benefit more from having Fizzer implement new features instead?

I doubt many players would download a script. On the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter hence my exaggeration looks silly from a neutral perspective.

I believe the strategic community does not matter on the whole for Fizzer, Idle players are where the monies are. If I was Fizzer I would give control of the ladders to trustworthy reliable players like Beren to democratically improve if possible. To leave it stagnated is not a healthy sign for a game to grow although in Fizzer's head this is due to WarZone stealing all his players.

Refusing to implement the only skill-based aspect CW offers tells a ton.
