Join now!
You can continue to join at ANY time. New tournaments will be created around the 15th in "odd" months (January, March, May, July, September, November).
Just post in this topic if you'd like to join with your clan. Preferably add two contacts. You only need 3 accounts to fill all slots and you can even join with a single account.
Any volounteers to help in the organization are also welcome!
Current organisers are Math Wolf & linberson.

Background
This is a laid-back clan competition with a focus on:
* just playing the game with minimal rules.
* creating a fluid ranking for clans.
* allowing clans to join or leave whenever they want.
This is in no way intended to replace Clan League, which provides a more extensive and direct format for clans to battle each other.

The Format

Two clan managers for each clan provide communication
(Currently prefered through PM with Math Wolf [2] -> https://www.warzone.com/Profile?p=7636877711 )
Clans are continuously ranked by points scored (more details below).
Bragging rights for winning a cup (details below).

Every two months, a new cycle starts with:

Two 2v2 single elimination tournaments worth 4 points
Four 1v1 single elimination tournaments worth 3 points
These are Warzone tournaments without seeding
All tournaments have a 3 day boot, vacation NOT allowed. A 5 days banked boot will be included to allow for roughly the equivalent of a single vacation. Also note that auto-commit does NOT break vacation and account sharing is allowed in Clan Cup.
The 8 slots in each cycle should be taken by minimum 3 different accounts in the clan (clan icon must match on the date of tournament creation) with a maximum of 3 slots per account. Not all 8 slots have to be filled every time by every clan, so feel free to skip tournaments that you don't like.
Templates are decided by 6 different clans that are randomly drawn from participating clans. In subsequent months, (1) clans that have the longest time since they previously chose a template and (2) have played the most cycles get priority to pick a template. Templates must have decent strategic quality. A template qualifies if it has been used in a competitive event before or uses standard low-luck settings (e.g. WR or SR, 16% luck or lower, manual picking, cycling move order). We recognize at minimum all official ladders, most Quick Match templates, MDL, previous Clan Leagues, AWP, original Nations Cup and potentially other competitive events from the past and future. Templates can be repeated with one cycle in between.
There are no further rules, just play the game. Taking over accounts, using alts, switching clans, playing with different accounts over different seasons, discussing moves with others, playing for different clans, teaming with your alt, ... it's all allowed. You could even use a "Clan account" to play and discuss moves in your clan forum (just don't complain if your opponent has a spy in your clan). Breaking Warzone rules is of course not allowed but will not be penalized by Clan Cup organizers.

Points, ranking, bragging

Every tournament is a Cup. Win the tournament to win the Cup. But you keep it only as long as the same template is not reused in a future tournament. If another clan wins a future Clan Cup tournament on this template, they take it.
The total points of a clan are calculated as the sum of the points of individual tournaments.
The total points of the tournament are the tournament weight (3 (1v1) or 4 (2v2)) multiplied by a recency modifier (e.g. 10 for the most recent, the 10 most recent tournaments count, details below), multiplied by points for the finish (e.g. 50 for winner, details below).
Points for the finish are:
1st: 50
2nd: 30
Semi-final: 18
Quarter-final: 10
Round of 16: 6
Round of 32: 3
Round of 64: 1
Points are only awarded if the clan produced at least 1 win, byes do not count as wins, opponent boots do.
Recency modifier is as follows:
ongoing: 10
previous: 10
2 cycles ago: 9
3 cycles ago: 7
4 cycles ago: 5
5 cycles ago: 3
6 cycles ago: 2
7 cycles ago: 2
8 cycles ago: 1
9 cycles ago: 1
Example: Warzonians lost in the semi-final of a 2v2 tournament. Since then, 3 new cycles of tournaments have been created. Weight=4, Finish=18, recency=7, total points=4*18*7=504.
Note: max points for a tournament is 4*50*10=2000, max points for a cycle is 10000, max total points is 50000.

Cycle 5

I am busy in real life for this cycle and maybe the next one as well. Anybody can give MW a helping hand with tournament creation?
An update would be nice as well!

About templates, the draw for cycle 5 was done, with the following result.
Note that [REGL] was a lock due to never having chosen a template before, the others were chosen from the teams that have joined all 4 cycles and only once got the opportunity to determine a template.

> set.seed(5)
> c("REGL",sample(c("|GG|","Hawks","LuFredd","ONE!","SNinja","Statisticians"),5))
[1] "REGL" "Hawks" "ONE!" "SNinja" "|GG|" "LuFredd"
> sample(c(rep("1v1",4),rep("2v2",2)))
[1] "2v2" "1v1" "1v1" "2v2" "1v1" "1v1"

Consequently:
* [REGL] and SNinja can choose a 2v2 template.
* Hawks, ONE!, |GG| and LuFredd can choose a 1v1 template.
Previously used templates up to cycle 3 can be chosen again.

Updates

We did a survey on potential changes for Clan Cup. 13 people from 12 different clans answered.
Overall, it seems people did not want too much abrupt changes. On the other hand, Clan Cup is meant to be a little fluid and experiment as compared to the much stricter Clan League framework. Below, the answers are summarized and the resulting changes discussed.

Number of tournaments and team size
A clear majority thinks the current number of 1v1 and 2v2 tournaments is about right, so these will remain unchanged.
The decision on (adding) 3v3 tournaments was split. Since no 3v3 template was chosen for cycle 5, Clan Cup will add one 3v3 tournament per cycle starting from cycle 6 onwards This will be evaluated after a few cycles and dropped if there is not enough interest.

Teams per tournament
Currently, only 1 team/player per clan is allowed per tournament. Respondents were split on allowing more, with 7 wanting to keep it a 1, 4 supporting an increase to 2, while 2 supported an increase up to 5. Since I personally belief active clans should be rewarded as well, clans can field up to 2 teams/players per tournament from cycle 5 onwards. The majority of respondents supported that only the player who achieves the highest finish will score points for the clan. A win against a player/team from the same clan counts as a bye (i.e. a player/team can only score points if they defeated a least one player/team from another clan). The idea of mixed teams got mixed answers as well and will not be further considered.

RT tournaments
At this moment, there does not seem to be a lot of support for RT tournaments within the Clan Cup format. The time of the tournament was the major issue for each clan.
Meanwhile, it could be an option to have separate RT tournaments that do count for Clan Cup as well, but are not organised as such (i.e. leave them more open).
This may be added later if a more suitable format is found.

With the 3v3 tournament added and the option of having 2 teams, the maximum total number of slots increases from 8 to 22.

Of note:
- The rule of maximum 3 slots per account remains
- Clans should take into account the Warzone rule that the same player cannot join a tournament with 2 accounts. (Clan Cup organisers themselves will never bother to check this).

One clan that can join with 2 or more teams, cannot be called the most active. I could fill my list up to 100 or more players but im not sure that all my teams will should be able to play well.
