TLDR,

But is everyone here that supports Voodoo one of his alts?

Also, this likely reveals that Fizzer can see behind fog during games to know what Voodoo was doing.

Next, if the season was still going on, I think a warning would have been appropriate, such as, if the games are force surrendered we will not let these wins stand as it violates the terms of use, find time to take your turns.

Finally, I've never thought the force end was appropriate for a season. Who's to say that the previous season must have a bow on it and be sitting under the tree before the next one starts?
Let it ride and not allow vacations during ladder games. This whole debacle could have been remedied with a few simple settings.

PS: Local Deployment changes a lot. Games go longer and strategies change. Forcing a season to end early after creating the seasonal ladder with Big USA 3.1k and 1 pick each would be kinda silly. Also, just because he stacked turn 1 means he lost. Local Deployment expansion changes a lot and a cursory analysis to the tactics isn't enough to the trained eye of a pre-local deployment setting.

Okay, I'm having trouble reconciling why:

1) A player in clear violation of the stated rules is allowed to be top of the points earned and players levels lists:

2) Extraordinary measures with no warning are taken to force-surrender a player that is playing within all of the game mechanics and stated rules.

Taking the logic of 1 to the extreme, what is stopping a player from creating 1000 alts, spamming the ladder, and playing to win against everyone else while giving easy wins to the main account?

Taking the logic of 2 to the extreme, every season should examined to see if the "Right" person won games adjudicated per the end of season mechanics.

Per 2, someone that played hard the whole 40+ turns of the game and sees that the end of season (EOS) mechanics are going to kick in before its over could defend and preserve armies and win via EOS mechanics whereas the correct winning tactic without EOS would be to attack.

From what I understand, voodoo tried to game the system in order to show fizzer that it was messed up. However, Fizzer must have had his eye on Voodoo because this is not near the first time this has happened in the seasonal ladder, and yet this is the first time a punishment has been given. I think that the system does have to be changed, because fizzer won't be able to stop everyone from gaming the system.

Some possibilities: no vacations allowed, allow the season to go another 15 days while starting the new one which will allow nearly all games to finish, 2 day autoboot is also a possibility but probably would not be popular.

I think something has to change on the seasonal ladder to allow less gaming of the system.

All good points. No vacations should be a given for a seasonal ladder. Going for 15 days more works, could be longer too. And yes, 2 days autoboot could work too, but would also cut into the participation somewhat I suspect. Of course leaving timeouted games for adjudication is possible, but I think that is a workload Fizzer would not want, not to mention the potential drama from people who disagree with his decisions.

I did play one recent season, but the end season scramble to convince people to not stall in an attempt to steal games really sucked the fun out of it for me. I would play more seasonal ladders if it weren't for the obvious problems with the season end.

Fizzer could also make it very clear what is allowed and what isn't, and then we all play to game the system within that frame. But that doesn't seem too likely either, so we're left with different perspectives and standards, which will inevitably lead to arguments and disappointments.
