In my opinion, I think the US supports it so much because it's capitalist, and because most of the influential Americans support the state of Israel. I think it should simply be Palestine, with international enforcement of the coexistence of both groups. Making Americans realize the hypocrisy and foolishness of such a state is one step to keep the wealthy from letting their opinions be a driving force for government actions. What are your thoughts on this subject?

Update: Brazil will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

For those of you wondering why Jerusalem can't be the capital of both countries it is because having an undivided Capital city is kind of a big deal. You cannot enforce immigration inside of a city. The Soviets tried to do it to Berlin in 1961 but it ultimately failed.

Zionism is the belief that a Jewish State should be established and continue to exist.

A Jewish state must exist somewhere. Jews have been persecuted for centuries all over the world. If this were to happen again then it is important the there be a voice at the UN for the Jews. Without a Jewish State, the Jews would have no representation in the UN as they would be a minority in all other countries. Yes, the UN is useless but if you believe in the capacity of the UN to solve problems (as those on the left generally do) then you have to agree to a Jewish voice at the UN that will be able to voice the concerns of Jews the world over.

The reason the US supports Israel on a moral level is because Israeli citizens are being stabbed, shot, and hit with rocket fire. And if a Palestinian kills an innocent Israeli then the Palestinian government will pay them a stipend. On a pragmatic level, Israel is a democracy that is suffering from Islamic Terrorism and in a post 9/11 world this makes them US allies.

Currently, the holy sites are under Israeli control and any member of the three major religions can visit them. However, this would not be the case under Palestinian rule.

Those are the secular arguments. But as many of you know the reason why Christian Zionists support Israel is hotly debated. I support Israel for all the reasons above but moreover America is not mentioned in the book of Revelations or in the other end times prophecies. America's fate is not yet determined. The same goes for Brazil.

While all Christians will be saved in the rapture, American Christians still feel an attachment and kinship to America and the non-raptured there. So we hope that by allying America with Israel (the winner of the end times battles and God's chosen people) we will preserve America and ensure that America picks the winning side in world war 3. Hopefully, if we support Israel enough now then when the tribulation is over there will still be an America left.

I think its worth noting that Israel was not solely a creation of the United States. It has historically been supported by most of the western world. Hell, the US wasn't even the main driver of its creation, that was the UK. So it is less US hypocrisy and more Western hypocrisy

What I meant with him asking to be careful is that first it's important to get the facts straight. Christianity has no concept of a holy site. Judaism has exactly one holy site which is the place where their temple is supposed to be. The temple got destroyed 70 CE and nowadays there is a muslim mosque standing there. The place isn't free to visit for non muslims.
