Actually Wally studies have proven that carb restricting does have some impact on fat loss. Not a lot, but it is almost certain that low carb diets contribute to a reduction of extra visceral fat.

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/23-studies-on-low-carb-and-low-fat-diets#section2
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15533250/

Furthermore, low carb diets have other benefits as well. You will feel satiated longer, since your body is consuming mostly fat and protein so you can consume fewer calories without suffering from hunger pains, and the diet can help you control your cravings.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that calories have a far more significant effect on weight loss than carb intake as a whole, but reduced carb intake definitely speeds up weight loss to an extent. You will lose weight both more easily and more efficiently.

Right, I wasn't suggesting what you eat or how you diet or whether you exercise was irrelevant. If you eat only vegetables and chicken breasts and run 5 miles a day you're going to feel a helluva lot better and be a lot healthier than someone who subsists on fast food and never leaves their house. But it is possible to lose weight either way.

One more thing I should add: you need to consume a bare minimum number of calories, or you're putting your health in serious jeopardy. This depends mostly on how much you weigh. Rough rule of thumb is 1200 for women and 1500 for men.

Anybody who endeavors to do this should read a lot more on it than what I've written here. Google CICO.

I regularly get blood work done. If I'm consuming fewer calories, what will show up in those blood tests to indicate "serious jeopardy"?

That is true for many reasons, even for weight loss, because underconsuming calories puts your body in starvation mode and your body will start to hold on to fat instead of burning it. Consuming healthy amounts of calories keeps the metabolism fast, but you also want to trick your body by consuming high amounts of calories on some days and lower amounts on some other days. You also have to include the right exercises to assure you're burning additional calories and retaining/improving muscle tone which also helps aid in fat loss.

@Ogre

I don’t know the answer to that but it’s probably covered in here somewhere:

https://www.reddit.com/r/loseit/wiki/index

@Teddi

High calorie days trick your body into releasing water, which will make the scale move. But you had already lost that weight. Your body would have released it eventually anyway.

That’s a great motivational tool for when the scale doesn’t budge for a week or more but it’s psychological.

It was at that moment I thought to myself holy cow. I just changed somebody's lifestyle by the means of posting the BMI thread on an off-topic forum. I couldn't feel myself more proud than the day meeting my first online friend knowing nothing how obscure that was...

But for real if you improve your lifestyle for the better, there's no way these indian these I-know-better-than-your-mathemicians should have a say

Okay enough with knyte the holy fatcow. If you avoid fastfood and just eat vegetables and fruits you're okay. I happen to eat 4 pieces of fruit everyday at 16:00. side fact I don't die of it

the trick for me was finding foods that i love which happen to be low calorie. the first month i turned going to the grocery store into a fun hobby. i'd go up and down every isle reading labels.

low cal yogurt, diet coke, hot sauce, coffee, snack bars, some random frozen foods, low cal tortillas, low cal cheese, halo top and yasso ice cream -- i fucking love all of these now. not diet love them, i just love them. if you can do the same, find foods that you genuinely like, it's much less work.

there are some fast food items that are pretty safe as well. subway white bread + turkey or ham, no cheese. believe it or not, a big mac isn't that bad. some taco bell items. there are others.

1 week on keto and I feel amazing and lost so much weight. This diet should be perfectly sustainable as long as I'm eating tons of spinach and shit. cx

The beginning is fun because your body dumps a whole bunch of water. So you lose a bunch of weight really fast. Don't get discouraged later when that slows down. It's normal.

1 pound = 3,500 calories.

a 1,000 calorie deficit per day = 2 pounds a week.

that's about the most you can lose in a healthy way. if you're losing more or less, it's likely just your body doing weird shit with water retention.

My mom had some 3 day cleanse drink that flushes out EVERYTHING. She was holding on to it until she got off early on friday so she'd have the whole weekend to recover. I'll get the name of it and let you all know what happened when I find out.

Good advice

I fasted for 10 days and when I weighed myself I had lost a whopping 500 pounds. Fasting really works, but due to the shift in my metabolism I gained back all the weight faster than I lost it,

OgreZed for me it's:

Eat when literally starving (dying from hunger in a literal way)
Stop when figuratively starving (SUPER DUPER DUPER DUPER HUNGRY)
Be shameful when hungry (You shouldn't have eaten that much)
Just.. WHY when full (Way too much food, you should realize that food costs money)

Good thing is you save A LOT of money, which is more important than weight.

The best diet is the one that you can have all life, all the other ones are temporary and can be dangerous for your health. You have to make sure to not lose too much lean mass (mostly muscles) when you lose weight because that lean mass helps you to regulate your weight in the long term. People on diet tend to fail because they don't preserve their lean mass while losing their overall mass (lean mass + fat mass). It puts them into a never-ending circle of losing fat and lean mass and then gaining back fat mass because they lost too much lean mass that was helping them regulate their overall mass. To keep your lean mass while losing your fat mass, you need diet + EXERCISE, preferably some kind of weight lifting or something that will increase or maintain your lean mass with cardio, one or the other is not enough (unless your form of cardio helps also increasing and maitaining your lean mass all through your body).

Chick Fil A is great fast food.

The chicken sandwich is fairly low in calories, the grilled chicken nuggets are literally just a grilled chicken breast which is Grade A diet food.

The Chik Fil A being healthier propaganda has already been debunked lel

Also no one on a diet should be eating processed white flour buns. Those are pure sugar. Either eat whole wheat buns or have a keto friendly low carb bun.

Edit: I have lost over 10 pounds so far since starting this diet btw. Not even making that up, I'm completely serious. Low calorie intake + few carbs + basic exercise (such as walking or jogging) really does work.

Chik Fil A being healthier

I didn't say it was healthier, this thread is about losing weight.

I said it's a great low calorie fast food option and that's a fact.
