I'm wondering why you called it WarZone rather than WarLight 2. WarLight was a kind of unique name, made me think of this particular game. But WarZone is so generic, it just sounds like some bog standard game churned out by a big company.

The real reason is that Mercer literally shilled for it. Fizzer got money to change the name to Warzone.
As for why Mercer wanted it, I think he had some idea that this name was actually better. It sounds normal, but it's also copied by like 2 other games already. Oh, and they had the chance to buy warzone.com but not warlight.com.

we had this debate when it was first announced well two(?) years ago.
the reasons were meh, so it got a lot of backlash / ridicule from the community about it and they kind of dropped the idea "for later". and now out of the blue it finally got picked up again with the launch of the unity version.
i fully agree warlight was a much more unique and memorable name, easy to remember, high on search rating and was around long enough that it had it's own meaning as the best online version of risk. but at the end of the day the creators own the game and if they don't agree with what the majority of the community tells them, well... who cares? the world will keep spinning. hearing the reports from Fizzer i honestly think warlight/warzone might be losing more people from the UI change then the name change.
so many people complained about the mobile version being crappy, and then when a new version with revised UI finally comes they complain the UI is different. they're never happy. now fizzer is wasting time implementing back the old UI to make people feel comfortable again. he'll probably be done by the time people already got used to the new one! meanwhile he could be improving the features of the new version or redoing the tournaments or updating the realtime ladder to make it interesting again or so many other things :(

I still refuse to recognize this site as 'warzone', that's why I still consider it to be 'warlight'.
