Vengeance is thinking of a tourniquet. He doesn't understand that tourniquet cut off circulation to a part of the body. We can't put a tourniquet around our neck because then we cut off circulation to our brain. Thats like hanging ourselves. we can put pressure on the wound.
You take the trench gun, and load a nearby round in and pump it. It fires immediately, startling you. You collect the rounds (18). You open the boxes, there's medical supplies, a compass, a lighter, a gasmask and two filters, and a copy of On War, all of which you take.
Edit: Why did we fire a round when pumping the shotgun? I am aware of the Winchester Model 1897 lacking a trigger disconnector, and therefor being able to shoot immediatly after pumping. However that still requires the trigger to be pulled. Why would a trained soldier pull the trigger, while checking the gun? Therefor we have 19 shells, not 18.
@Cata, Smedley obviously wants someone to be alerted to our presence by a gunshot. Remember, the option to shoot the wolf? Remember the option to shoot the Badger instead of knifing it?
Thinking up those options were a waste of his time unless it is supposed to get us fire off a shot which will draw someone to our position.
Eventually, we didn't bite so he had to get a gun to go off near us one way or another.
