A new type of game idea that i am trying to test out but when i put it on the open
Game list with "Different game please read rules!" people still join without reading

so here goes

Inspired by the capture the flag style of game play I wanted to try bring in a whole new type of strategy to a game.

Four Castles
Light Fog
Some basic cards (to start off with)


The idea is that instead of destroying all of your competitors forces to win the game, all you need to do to take over an opponents Castle by taking THEIR "THRONE ROOM 4 OR 5" squares (territory)

we need a little bit of good will in this game so everyone must keep to these rules in order to make it work

RULES
A. When your Throne room 4 or 5 squares has been taken (after the turn has finished) by and opponant you must surrender straight away
B. If you take someones Throne room 4 or 5 squares you then own 2 castles, all of your castles need to be taken from you by the competitors in order for you to be out of the game

C. The winner is the person who gets all 4 castles

Hope that makes sence.



So Basically im looking for a few people that think its a good idea and want to give it a go!

just post on this forum and every 3 people that post ill invite you to a game :)

I'm interested.

Have you thought about custom scenario.. e.g. putting extra neutral armies at the portals, in order to prevent players getting raided early in the game, since it's the shortest way to the throne room?

i have tought about it but i think its more interesting to leave that quick route available. This means you have to tally up what your best options are. defend the weak point or expand.

obviously the more we play this type of game the more we can work out if this will actually be a problem. if it turns out to be a problem we can tweek it

Are you sure it's a good idea to have multiple territories together as a "flag"?

Let's say someone is both expanding (and close to beating an opponent), but also has trouble keeping his own flag secure. If he owns all-but-one of his opponent's "flag" at the end of the turn in which he loses the last of his own flag, he'd have to surrender; that seems a little weird, since he's closer to having a flag than his opponent (his opponent being able to retake his whole flag uncontested doesn't seem right either).

And, what happens when you lose half of your flag to one enemy and the other half to another? You surrender, they continue to battle it out...?

Finally, a minor nitpick: in most CtF games I've played the flag is in a relatively defensible position. In the map you've chosen (especially with the wrap-around entry not being blocked of, the flag is almost out in the open...

A suggestion which would fix both problems: move the flag to that small bonus just outside the castle, on the opposite side of the secondary gate.

Sorry about the delay on my turns and replying on here. its been a pretty mad christmas!!

@RvW im not quite sure what you mean. the flag is only two territories (throne room 04 & throne room 05) if any of these are taken then you have to surrender (its not if both are taken). im not sure if i made that clear enough and hope that others playing understand that.

in regards to the warp section, if you count the number of squares it takes to reach the flag this way it is exactly the same as traveling down the main road and taking the -1 short cut. for this reason i dont see that as a problem

i do see your point about hiding the flag away in a really hard to reach place and i can see how people might perfer this but from my view i kind of like the fact that it isnt so tucked away and is accecable from a few different angles.

but you know these are just my opinion at the moment. this is why i want to test this quite a few times, take a few suggestions and improve the game play
