second edition of Captain's League !!
As we speak right now, captain's league season 1 divisional rounds are completed and we are starting the final showdown between the winners of each division. Good luck to all the remaining players!

Originally, a similar competition to this one was taking place between players of the clan VS and some friends of that clan. When I got into VS, rocky1 and I talked about creating an event that would be similar but that would also allow people of different clans (or clanless people) to meet other good strategic players from other clans (or other good clanless strategic players).
3. The Concept:
There will be "captains". Initially, theses captains will be joined together to discuss and decide the templates that we will play on. From there, we will hold a draft of the players (the procedure for the draft is still to be determined). Once the teams are drafted, they will work together as a team in hope of conquering their division over 1 v 1, 2 v 2, and 3 v 3 templates in RR tournaments. If they are successful in winning the division, they will advance to the championship and face the winner of the other division in a battle to the death :) (This will be stage 2).
a.
Criteria to be a captain:
1. Being a
good/decent strategic player (This criterion is not precisely defined yet but it implies doing good on ladders, on very competitive tournaments, on Clan League, etc.).
Ideally, we would like to have all captains to have somewhat a similar level of skills for this edition . For example, if we have let's say MotD as one of the captains, well we have to find 7 other guys that have somewhat a similar level of skills to deadman (might be hard though :P). rocky1 and I will consider everyone that applies to be a captain, but we will try our best to take the captains that will be on a similar level of gameplay.
2. During the preparation phase, which will last possibly 2-3 weeks, we need captains to generally log once per day (generally as we have lifes other than WL) in order for them to rapidly and efficiently choose the templates and select their teammates. Once the preparation phase is done though, captains have almost nothing else to do but play their templates and motivate their teammates! :)
3. Respecting the delays. rocky1 and me will be possibly be captains but if we are not, we will still help manage this league and make it easier for the captains to select templates and make the draft. Like point 2 suggests, we expect captains to be quite active during the templates selection and the draft (which we would like to be 2 or 3 weeks max). That means rocky1 and I want captains that will be involved and that will choose templates and draft players on time.
b. Players that can participate
We don't want to sound like some elitists, but we would like that for this season,
everyone is at least a decent player and hence able to compete on strategic templates against decent to elite strategic players. Don't get me wrong though, last season we had a ton of great players that we would like to see back! We will not specify what we mean by being a "decent player", but rocky1 and I could potentially refuse someone that doesn't have enough skills to compete in this league (we don't want people that are almost sure to lose all their games). Our judgement will be based on skills alone, not on personal preferences for 1 player or an other. An other aspect too, boots can sink a team down. Hence,
we might exclude some people that we know that have a tendency to often get booted .
c. Teams:
Last season, we had 40 players and 8 captains. We have 48 players and 8 captains for this season for 56 players per team.
Each team will come up with a team name and will be referred to as by the team name in any summaries or conversation about the battle!! (The team name is more for fun than anything :P)
d. Divisions:
4 teams per division. The teams should be distributed randomly but if we feel like some teams seem to be stronger than some other teams, we might balance the divisions manually.
e. The Games:
5 1 v 1 templates
2 2 v 2 templates
1 3 v 3 templates
(ALL RR TOURNEYS with 4 or 5 opponents/teams)
This season, it will be 1 template at a time for 1v1s but 2 games at once for team games. We want to accelerate the pace with which team games are played by that adjustement. Captains will work with their teams on strengths and weaknesses to determine the best lineup...
Each player can play up to 2 templates maximum but must play 1 template at the very least! (As earlier noted, templates will be discussed by captains)
This means a maximum of 6 to 8 games in stage 1 and a maximum of 2 games in stage 2 (if you reach it) so nothing unmanageable for anyone! :)
f. The points system:
Similar to clan league,
3 points for a 1 v 1 win
4 points for a 2 v 2 win
5 points for a 3 v 3 win
BONUSES will be given if a player or team goes undefeated in their template.
1 point 1 v 1
2 points for 2 v 2 and 3 v 3.
g.
Replacement games:
Only implemented if a player is booted before picks. The boots after picks=too slow, joe :). We have 7 players per team with 12 slots. That means 5 guys of a team will play 2 templates each while the 2 other players will have 1 template each. The players that have only 1 template each are reservists in case an other player goes inactive.
*****To ask a replacement for a player that as gone inactive BEFORE the picks in a game, send a email before turn 1 of that game to rocky1 or Me.h. STAGE 2:
This will be the championship stage. The highest scoring team from division x, and the highest scoring team from division y will meet in a championship round, all the other teams will be eliminated and given a high-5 for participation. We will use the same templates and the same rosters as for stage 1 unless someone in a team as gone inactive. Consider it the ultimate CLASH OF THE TITANS!!
4. Other
We would also like to have guys that would be willing to give updates on the league and act as a scorekeeper. Ideally, we would have 1 scorekeeper and 1 guy for updates. It might be captains themselves or we will try to find someone that have the desire to do it!

I would like that the templates are fresh from a season to another. That means the templates we choose last season will probably be excluded a priori.
