+1 Zenvue

Although I doubt that would happen as too many people have the arrogant mindset that if they personally don't like something then it shouldn't exist.

The above is the fatal flaw of this update. People should be free to decide what to read but not free to dictate what others can read.

The point is not if you can argue over any specific thread that I link. When 70% of the first page is hidden, something is broken. Clearly not all of those deserve to be hidden.
Yet you refuse to give an example. Probably because you know most people don't like all the off-topic spam. Which is probably why they got hidden in the first place. Those threads being hidden doesn't necessarily imply the system is broken; it may as well imply that the majority of the community doesn't like those threads and want them gone. And that's why this update is great. People needlessly spamming threads in the off-topic section can finally be muted to some extent, benefiting the majority of the community as we see here.

I think those "attacks" are negligible. The voting system is weighted; if you're a low level alt: no high weights on your votes. So to actually "attack" a thread, you'd need a lot of high leveled people. And so far, people that are actually involved in this community have been upvoting threads that they deem important and downvoting threads they think are unrelated or nonsense or whatever. I don't think you can do serious damage with only a few players; the forum community is simply too big for weighted votes to contest it.

Yes it is true. But note that it was also true before and automoderation by voting only helps here.

Wonderful. Due to lame spammers now there will be further arms race, with unavoidable drawbacks.

I guess that rate-limiting for low-level accounts will be next.

I want to see the "50 threads hidden" button of legend show up, though.

just as Fizzer(the real one said); "it's sad everyone has to suffer because of the wrongdoing of some people", or sth like that when pic sending in forums gone membership-only.

It's not too hard to automate spamming, literally a half-assed autoclicker can do it.

And as result everybody will lose as CAPTCHA and/or rate limiting will be introduced for low levels...

So they come back with new alt + a proxy?

There's no way to stop someone determined to fuck shit up.

Some things have to be done:

1) Cooldown when you get X threads hidden
2) Finding and banning accounts that are allowing them to reach level 4 (minimum level to post on forums)
3) Moderators that can actually give out suspensions (even if short 1-hour timeouts; would give them time to get rid of the spam)

IP bans fail for proxies, TOR and dynamic IPs. Chasing proxies alone is a full-time job - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_on_open_proxies/Guide_to_checking_open_proxies

Wikipedia blocks all of those. Once they give you an IP ban, they mean it, it's really hard/near impossible to edit from the same location with a ban.

Though they have years of experience and a team of programmers working full-time.

Wikipedia has many, many moderators. Including automatic bot reverting suspected vandalism (works better than expected, but it required massive amount of work). And is some cases it is quite hard to get rid of persisteny idiots. For example Polish wikipedia needed to block hundreds of thousands (what become hot topic in media) just to block single person editing random articles to insert photo of penis. (googling "penis wandal wikipedia" will give more info, AFAIK all is in Polish).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard is example of how much work it requires. For example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_on_open_proxies handles solely requests to block suspected proxies.

Imho the like dislike should determine what you should and shouldn't want to read. It should not dictate what others have to read

autoclicker

I never knew these existed. Awesome.

Just set one up to open profiles and look at peoples stats in auto games, instead of making all those clicks.

The forums are so boring now...
not because the spam is hidden but because decent threads no longer appear for anyone to see unless accessing the forum button.
We should be able to see new threads created as a priority over all these boring played out ones.
The threads shown on the dashboard havent changed in a week...

Please change this

Voting threshold needs to be raised in Off-Topic forum. It's basically a politics forum so every thread is naturally going to have a lot of people disagree with it so they downvote it. 95% of the threads are being hidden as a result.

I don't know if Warlight is big enough and people care enough to organize downvoting of every random thread in that forum.
