Here's what the "Revolutionary War" was in the eyes of Brits:

A bunch of unruly teenagers, who hadn't been educated properly, running around with guns and complaining about paying a bit of tax and trying to make their own country out of a piece of useless land that happened to be part of our empire that we didn't really want or need, but was useful for dumping people that we didn't want from Britain to.

The "Declaration of Independence" was just us agreeing to let you have the useless part of British North America whilst we kept the important strategic parts (Canada).
