The reason for the settings is that these settings make a large FFA a bit faster to complete. Otherwise the game could drag on forever. If the settings are more normalised, the map needs to be made smaller as well. The one time I played this template (admittedly with only 4 players) it was actually quite fun.

Been, you're one of the more experienced players so it makes sense you had no issue with it. However, the average user likely won't be familiar with many of those settings making it much harder for them. That is Fizzer's concern and it is valid.

The more atypical the settings used, the more it favors the experienced players, especially those who have played practice games with that style.

Oh, I didn't know crazy settings were being used. Those settings sound interesting, but maybe for this event we should make it a more "normal" game (i.e. turn off the multi attack and no-split).

My concern is that most players won't understand the strategy and will have no chance, since they've never played on those settings before.

Since this is a one-time special event, I'd hate to see most players feel like they had no chance, and see the game dominated by the people who have practiced it. The settings should be something that the average WarLight player is familiar with.

Either that or do a practice game first, but I'm afraid that would take too much time.

Well, in all honesty most 40 FFA games features a twist or two. Most typical the Diplo-sort. If you want the most played 40FFA game- that is a lotto template for sure. Of course Dobbel or quadruple Earth -no fog- rest normal could be interesting. (Or a thoose hexacircile maps for a very even game) But I kinda like messy big FFA's.

The problem with a full-scale test/practice game. they probably won't fill /:

Also, a normal 40 FFA could last very long.

@Beren, Smaller map could lead to longer game tbh. think, small Earth.

@Sharpe, you are right, unusual settings favors experienced players. But so do normal settings.

PS. (not the player, dah xD)

I think of this as a Normal Settings 40 FFA https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=4653052

@PS, If you end up changing settings, I would recommend considering, 3 min instead of 5, Auto-dist to make picking unimportant and to give everybody a chance. Also makes it slightly faster. Fog level is tricky, since you need to know how the game is going i suppose it has to be light or no fog, but that makes the game longer, since players will target the big guy.

You are of course correct that experienced players have an edge. That's the nature of experience.

However, that edge is far more significant when atypical settings are used. It's only a slight edge with normal settings.

Sharpe good players normally don't play with commanders. Or no split. So i don't think the settings favour them tbh.

And imo multiattack can't really be seen as super untypical setting.

I obviously wouldn't know what settings good players use!

I think any one of the atypical would be okay but having all three gets to be too much

Not always, that depends on the player in question. For example one very well know player recently asked on Help what commanders did. Not really trying to disagree with you, a combo of no-split-multi attack-commanders-old map with unique bonus style- will leave many players helpless from turn 1.

Anyway, my thoughts on settings are written above. After all one of the goal is for the game to finish during the stream.

@mod, Multiatack is untypical since the game- I presume- will have no prerequisites. Hence only player above Lv X will know Y settings. This is the main argument to Fizzer I think.

I just thought to myself; what would member only forums be for? Like, literally anything you'd want to post would go elsewhere. Pretty sure there'll be some goons using it to discuss politics, while others use it to make games, and in little to no time it'll be a clusterfuck. And not even a fun one, because the funny trash and the actual people looking for something won't be split by subforums.

Realistically, yeah, YT Export and community dashboards are the only one I see being good. The 3v3 ladder changes are no big deal really, and considering the other things Fizzer's offering us, that's a real big waste (seriously? trading a youtube export for a five click effort template change? =/)

FFA without multi attack will definitely take quite a while to finish.

without the no split on this template the city bonuses become easy to get and secure. it's still playable just not so much fun anymore.

i think experienced players will have more advantage without the no split though, since they know the best city bonuses and how to defend them properly. whilst no-split forces them to focus on what to do with the main stack, bonuses being much harder to defend.

but well, whatever...

We could do the multi-attack no-split game during the stream just for fun (no reward). Then once that game ends, start a normal multi-day FFA. The winner of the multi-day one will determine the feature reward whenever it finishes.

No need to make an FFA just for fun.It is better to create a livestreamed tourney and play imo.

yeah if you plan on making a 40 player multi day ffa that will last 2 or 3 months at best, you better just do a rt tournament

So apparently Poland Commanders MA NS might give some people some strategic advantage.

So in the sake of fairness to all players Fizzer requested we use another template with more standard settings, we have agreed upon song of ice and fire 1 random start, with commanders, 0% SR, normal fog. will be created soon.
