Might make sense because the American players on this site tend to skew younger, Americans are fucked when it comes to taxes on gambling, and coin payouts are pretty meh compared to an average American's income or cost of living. Doesn't make sense to spend a few hours to earn less than minimum wage, and you're not going to do much better than that unless you're really good.

A big chunk of the reason why America seems to overspend on the military, healthcare, etc., is because American labor is hella expensive- at least a quarter of our massive military budget (this quarter would be big enough to just barely trail China's military budget) is just paying people.

Certain aspects need to bee controlled for.

How do you define a top player?

-- Most Wins? Maybe they have just played longer?
-- Best winning percentage? Maybe they farm?
-- Best ladder record? Maybe they prefer to play open games?

Another question, which is probably more important, is perhaps that during certain times of the day, certain types of games are preferred. What I mean is that it seems to me that open games on the Rise of Rome map are more plentiful in the evening in North American time zones, while overnight, that is in the Morning European time, I seem to get more action on the ladders?

Maybe, for whatever reason, there are more players playing open games from the U.S. while more players playing the ladder from Europe. It's hard to become a top player unless your competition is also good, and more numbers usually means more competition.

It's because Europeans can just waste their lives on WL thanks to the welfare nanny state.

Isn't that the same for America though?

Did you ever wonder where the term "Americans" came from? Europeans, specifically the British, started calling natives and then European settlers here, Americans, all the way back to the 17th century, if not earlier. Why fix what ain't broke?

Also, inhabitants of the USA definitely ARE "americains", as are Canadians, Brazilians, Panamanians, etc etc etc. We're all Americans on this/these American continent(s).
