Nothing wrong with Roundabout, it was designed as a lottery ma like Duel and Truel, and like you even said, it makes for quite an interesting one.

Server space:

- Games played (bad WL user experience) on bad maps are saved indefinitely
- Map page + preview map page
- Loading of maps page takes longer the more maps there are

A solution:

- "Unpublish" 100-500 of the worst maps
- Tell the makers of those 100-500 maps that if they want to be re-published, improvements have to be made (good for WL user experience) --> map page will load faster, less clutter
- Establish higher standards for the publishing of all future maps (avoid wasted space of WL servers)

Additional spring cleaning that could save server space and make WL less cluttered:

- Delete forum nonsense after a period of inactivity unless the thread is useful
- Delete non-member accounts after a fixed period of inactivity
- Allow players to delete mail and clan forum threads/mails
- Allow players to delete their accounts

Feline, that is a good idea. Fizzer should ask some of the better mapmakers to fix, improve or beautify as many maps as possible.

Some of my maps are just that, modifications of the maps of others: Greece, France, China, Asia, Qina. I played the maps and found potential for minor or major differences or improvements.

-------------

"Grover's conclusion: Qi is being a jerk for literally no reason other than that Qi CAN be a jerk. Perhaps the anonymity of the internet is effecting Qi's judgement on what is ordinarily acceptable human behavior. I'm sure that Freud would have a field day with this one."

I was just having some fun. But if you want I can psychoanalyze your words like a Freudian jerk.

First, your name, "Darth Grover": Luke, your father's death, absence, or abuse robbed you of your childhood innocence. Emotionally, you have not been able to overcome this loss, absence or trauma.

Your image: Grover's face appears as if he were sexually abused (by his father, Darth Vader?) and he tries to hide his anguish behind his mask.

The usage of the word "jerk": You live in suburban America and feel a necessity to judge others as if you were still in high school. This could be due to the influence of your mother's or grandmother's incessant gossiping. Women tend to use the word jerk more than men.

"literally": The logic in your argument is lacking, so you attempt to use multisyllabic words as a form of sophistry to compensate for being less erudite and precise with your language as you pretend to be. Is it really "no reason" or are you merely incapable of understanding a possible reason? Suburban America is quick to judge.

"CAN": Anyone "can be a jerk." If some opinionated person thinks you are a jerk, you are, at least in the mind of that one person. But the true "jerkness" of someone is probably best determined by a random sampling of at least 1000 suburban women, age 40 through menopause. Their opinions, feelings, and sense of always being right is the best gauge of one's "jerkness."

"effecting": This is not a verb. Are you in high school? Or are you not well read? Your anonymity argument equally applies to you: Why did you feel compelled to emerge from the shadows to attack some random account named Qi? Was anonymity a factor? Was your childhood trauma a factor in seeking justice, as determined by your judgmental mother's definition of "ordinarily acceptable human behavior"? Would your mother judge your emotional investment in a forum thread about bad maps as being ordinary and acceptable behavior?

"Freud": Name-dropping as an IQ boost? Which of Freud's books have you read in full? Are you an authority on Freud? Or does dropping his name in your sentence enable you to move beyond mother's method of arguing based on opinions?

"have a field day": This is a cliché that means something and nothing at the same time. More imprecise language.

Even though you invoked Freud, whom some suburban women (who gain an understanding of the world from reality TV instead of rational thought and reading intelligent books) might classify as a "jerk" whose behavior with patients was neither ordinary nor acceptable, I still apologize for "having a field day" at your expense. I thought I should make an effort to live up to your expectations of me.

That was beautiful. :-D

Completely incorrect on all counts except the fact that I live in the US, but still beautiful.

"Effect" may be used as a verb in certain cases such as this one. I suggest you look into this. The use of "Effect" and "Affect" is often confused and ambiguous, so it's not surprising that you've made this mistake. While "Effect" is usually used as a noun and "Affect" is usually used as a verb, both words have other less common uses. "Effect" as a verb can mean "to cause" or "to bring about". I could have also said: "Perhaps the anonymity of the internet HAS EFFECTED Qi's judgement on what is ordinarily acceptable human behavior" and still would have been correct in my usage of the word. Know what you are talking about before you call someone out on the technical use of a word.

Knowing that there is someone who would waste so much thought and time typing a forum post like yours has given me hope. Thank you, Qi. :-D

Also... the argument about limited server space preventing the map page from loading in a timely manner is a weak foundation for your conclusion to stand on.

I've just loaded the page with every map on warlight and it took a whole 3(!) seconds.

Having to wait 3 instead of 2 is ridiculous. I agree. It is unacceptable.

While extremely entertaining, your psychoanalysis is simply fallacy that does not support your main conclusion.. As you stated yourself: "The logic in your argument is lacking, so you attempt to use multisyllabic words as a form of sophistry to compensate for being less erudite and precise with your language as you pretend to be." There is no need to do so. Just the existence of your post is enough to prove to anyone that you are indeed an intellectual giant. Only a true scholar would have the time, energy, and boredom to spend on such a post. :-) Your well crafted sentences and attention to small detail while missing the whole are a mark of someone who passed through a Prussian model school system with flying colors. (Extra points if you don't have to look that up to figure out what was implied.)

Freud WOULD have a field day with you. This is neither name dropping nor an imprecise use of terms. You simply lack a basic understanding of the connotations of the term "Field Day". In fact, you seem to not understand the implied meaning of "Field Day", "Jerk", or the Oxford accepted definition of "Literally" (also known as "Oxford Literal" and "California Literal". I will give you the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to cultural differences that you don't pick up on subtleties that would even be well understood by the average suburban American grandmother. Perhaps I will clarify...

Jerk: An more acceptable alternative to "Jerk-Off". In the US the meaning of "jerk" is well understood. Only Hollywood representations of high school students use "jerk". Real high school students tend to be far more vulgar and colorful in their use of language.

Field Day: Enjoyment to excess. Freud WOULD thoroughly enjoy analyzing you. You don't even need to be a scholar to know that Freud enjoyed analyzing ANYONE. It's documented fact. It was his passion. In everyday speech, to say that Freud would have a field day with you has the implied meaning that you have numerous psychological issues. It's simply a insult. The fact that you read so much into it would imply that it was an accurate one. (Since you seem to miss subtlety: That was another insult).

Literally: It is now one of the accepted definitions according to Oxford Dictionary that the word "Literal" is figurative with added emphasis. You're right. I think it's stupid too. But it still creeps into everyday speech regularly.

Now perhaps you will have a more thorough understanding of my original post. Given your obvious intellect, I'm a little surprised I had to spell it out in language that seems more fit for "a random sampling of at least 1000 suburban women, age 40 through menopause."

Someday when I have more time I'll psychoanalyze you from your psychoanalysis of me. That will be fun.

Even if you disregard all of our back and forth, it still does not change the fact that your argument for deletion does not hold water. <---(The implied meaning of that is that it has lots of holes in it.)

Thanks, the goal was to entertain.

...the internet is causing / is bringing about Qi's judgement on what is ordinarily acceptable human behavior...

Sorry, I can't agree that using the verbal form of effect here in a passive construction as a gerund is what you intended. And if it was, it seems misused.

Anyway, the point was to pick and poke as a jerk and try to psychoanalyze someone I don't know anything about, based on limited information that is largely meaningless. I was hoping it was wrong, because if it were correct, I might have to deal with an emotionally unstable stalker who would want to harm me. I don't need that. This site (and thread) isn't that meaningful.

About loading: If you are in a place with weak or unstable internet, your 2-3 second difference can become the difference between not loading or loading, or loading in 5-10 seconds compared to 30 seconds to a minute or two. The map pages sometimes have too much data to load quickly enough or at all. I've encountered this numerous times. Don't assume everyone has the same internet speed. I stopped paying for cable TV and internet, and instead only use my cell phone. When I am in the concrete jungle of Taipei, the seven to ten story buildings surrounding my apartment near the bottom floor partially block my access to my cellphone provider. Instead of the four bars I'm accustomed to while walking around the streets, I get 2-4 bars in one room near a window and 0-2 bars in my living room and bedroom. This makes WL incredibly slow. Could I pay $30 a month to have faster internet? Yes. Do I need it or want it? No. I'm not home more than six days a month. $30 for six days isn't worth it.

That makes more sense. Sometimes saying things in a more reasonable way will get more support. Being a jerk will just get people to be annoyed by you. Hahaha...

PPS Not the internet. The anonymity of the internet. Remove "of the internet" from the equation.

The anonymity is effecting Qi's judgement.
