Just out of curiosity, what is the appeal of such enormous maps? What makes it fun?
I understand the desire for more detail as a mapmaker, but as a player I always turn down invitations to games on giant maps because they drag on forever and can take ages to play, as well as becoming really tedious to handle (loading time, especially just to read the latest chat, having to zoom in and out every time to make orders, and sometimes just the sheer VOLUME of orders necessary becomes very tedious).
Yeah, length doesn't really depend on map size. I just think larger maps make for more possibilities and more fun.
Back on the subject of long-lasting MD games though; I don't see why people complain about it. "This game has gone on for too long, just VTE." Doesn't make sense to me. FFAs (though I don't play them much) I could see, since most of the time I just want them to be over with. But diplos? Heck, I could play the same diplo for years and not care, if it would last that long.
Well I'm currently finding a way to solve that bonus issue. One thing I'm currently busy with is this: http://imgur.com/a/AqnDK Replacing bonus links with colorful numbers is a genuine idea I thought to myself.
