practise practise practise.

First make sure you understand the way the game works, once you understand, just play games. If you lose, look at the games as to see where you went wrong, if you don't know where you went wrong, ask someone to help you, people are very friendly in the warlight community.

NB DON'T GET BOOTED - it is better to surrender than to be booted.
Its fine if you're not good at warlight, but if you have a high bootrate you won't beable to play certain games, people will treat you differently and will be less likely to help you.

Most important is the will to improve. There are guys with huge amount of games that don't improve because they don't really want it.

Try single player and analize wins and losses

look at ladder games between top players and analyse their picks.

open threads asking for opinions on picks and expansion strategies on specific moments where you have doubts what would be the best option.

ask your opponent after game is done what was the turning point of the game, they're usually willing to discuss it a bit.

watch the livestream events where folks analyse strategic games and give general pro tips on strategy.

practise, practise, practise.

also i think we should note that "this game" is not just the 1v1 ladder. If your talking about Open Games, I suggest reading the settings before you enter a game and know what the settings mean. (as many people join not knowing something and lose because of it.)

Nah, he told OP how to go about doing what you said they should.

Most important is to look at history after each game and see how the flow goes you will get much better picture of whats happening behind the fog

Every game is different if you playing autogame settings, so that depends on the wastelands.

Best thing is to think about

How much income will I get in turn 2 if all goes well?

How much income will I get in turn 3 if all goes well?

How safe is my bonus? Can I expand here?

Where is my opponent most likely going to be, can I reach him fast enough?

If I lose my picks can I counter my opponent?

This is a forum thread of picking

Picking plays an important role but what is more important is your playing skill, different people pick differently, read the documents and decide for yourself and then learn from your mistakes. Don't do something for the sake of doing something but ensure that there is a reason for what you're doing.
