Almost every put down is offensive to one group or another. There's a reason they've become known as insults, they're OFFENSIVE. To say that one type of insult in particular deserves to be banned is just a double standard.

Every insult is mocking SOMETHING about a person, and with the exception of friendly jibes the point of an insult is to emotionally degrade the other person. I hate it when people think they're superior just because they don't use the word "retard" and try to force other people not to use it.


TL,DR: Retard is just one of many offensive words. It is no better or worse than the other insults out there. If you're going to call for censorship don't do it halfway. (The word Poon is offensive to some, so change your own clan name QB if you care so much about the feelings of others.)

I'm not saying it's bad to insult people or that we should stop saying anything that hurts anyone's feelings. That was never the point. Saying "retard" as an insult is just a low blow because you're mocking disabilities that millions of people struggle with every day. It's like using "paraplegic" in a derogatory way. It's just douchey to trivialize it.

My point was that it's a crazy double standard to make such a huge fuss over "retard" when frequently used insults like dumb, stupid, and idiot, are used by almost everyone and mean EXACTLY the same thing. People single out this one word even though it's no worse than a bunch of others out there.

the reason I dislike the word is because you are referring to certain people when you are calling individuals "retards". The word "retard" is offensive towards those with mental disabilities who cannot defend themselves. When it was used the person saying it was referring to those people because he said they do not deserve his respect due to their limited intellect. It is extremely offensive especially when used in that context.

This is wholly unacceptable language. I'm not sure what upbringing you have had where you feel it acceptable to ridicule the most vulnerable people in our societies. Those afflicted with disabilities or developmental delays had no choice in the matter, unlike some who are able but choose not to 'be productive' - your scorn should fall upon these.
