Alright. Here's the thing. One of my friends is a retired bass/guitar player who used to play a lot in NY, making records and stuff.

Well, we were working together, and he decided my voice needs to find its way into that world... so he's contacted one of his friends, [name] in New York; this friend of his owns a production company.

We talked a bit, and he [production company owner] told me to put some music onto Youtube and 'he'll see what he can do' to help out...

This could be.... pretty big

The challenge: I need to find music. I have me a pianist, a bass/guitar player, and my baritone voice. The goal is to find something we can do that stands out, that can really be amazing... magical. etc. So... I'm asking around. What music could I do? :)

Side note; whatever we choose, doesn't necessarily have to be both piano + guitar. Could be either/or.

I'm not sure if you're looking for a specific music genre, but i think you could do Van Halen - Jump. I'd have to look at it, but it's a good enough song and should bring out each instrument.

The genre I'm looking for is 'anything, modern-acoustic'. As long as we can make it awesome, it's fair game!

XD

There's a good number of options out there.

For example, I've performed 'Say Something' by Christina Alguilera, a few times. That's one option.

A few people I've asked have suggested I look into Switchfoot and Needtobreathe for ideas.

do you know anything about the production company? alot of times these companies will lean towards certain types of music or artistic integrity over mass appeal or vice versa. see what you can find out about them and do what you are naturally best at but lean a little bit in their direction.

and if you're doing other people's songs, go back at least 20 years and do something that isn't already covered 5 million times on youtube (i know, impossible).

im a musician too, but i don't really pay any attention to the "pro" way of doing things, so take my advice with a grain of salt. that's just what i would be looking for if i was looking for talent.

That's good advice there. I want to be able to stand out from the crowd here.

As for,

do you know anything about the production company?

I know a little bit, yes. But I'm not sure if it would help. Right now I'm just listening to music, looking for something that'll really be great. :)

You'd have to be pretty great to cover S&G...
A lot of the vocals are harmonized and the ones that aren't are usually sung by Art in his angelic high voice. I'm no expert, but I'd say it's not really feasible for a baritone to be attempting such lofty heights!

As for suggestions? Louis Jordan pops up in my head. Quite old, and not that well-known these days, so I don't think it will have been widely used. Plus it's great music!
Something slow and rhythmic to touch the soul. Perhaps 'Is you is or is you ain't my baby'.
piano tune. You could maybe squeeze a guitar in somewhere, but a double bass would be better! :P

I'm sure this suggestion isn't very good, but I happened to be listening to it hehe
