1. Hell yeah Ares won.

2. Voted for Black Sea since it's a favorite 1v1 template of mine.

That was a close call 93 versus 94 votes!
But I'm glad Ares won!

Black Sea out of these maps, quite a disappointing week tbh. Its known as a fairly good strategic map. Territories are interestingly very detailed also.

First World War has some nice historical content.

Black Sea is balanced and interesting to play.

Though, my vote is to Floating Rocks. Holy hell. That's some EXCELLENT art. And the territories blend in with the beautiful background, the white spots don't quite look bad! And it's in awesome 3D. Holy hell! What is the maker doing in WarLight? He could be rich now, as a deisgner.

Floating Rock, it's like playing warlight on a picasso painting. Beautifull map which is far more better than the other maps :)
Artistic maps are always more interesting to play compared with standard maps with no artistic aspects

Though it was copied, just coverted into a vector image. Still a good map but less creditable.

^While that probably is how it as done, as a player, I only care about the final result. An astonishing map.

PS. I see that the mapmaker have left a link to his image.

Floating Rocks really is a nice picture, that obviously generates a nice atmosphere. which also seems to be the intention of the artist, who created this wallpaper. The map itself is at best average. It has clean borders, with its bonus range between 2 and 4 it seems to be balanced, too. although you are able to defend vast areas on few chokepoints.
The artwork itself is mainly used for decorative reasons and doesnt really influence the map shape, so it doesnt really support the gameplay, as well. The territories roughly overlay the plateaus and some margins look unclean and swiftly made. At least there are some copy pasted parts of the original wallpaper to fill up the center. If you substract the picture you will have oval shaped and far distant isles with weird connections. In my opinion it is the blatant use of foreign work, to improve an average map. I hope Dark Mist asked at least for permission to use the artwork for a warlight map.
Usually, Dark Mist creates visually appealing maps with great effort, so hopefully it was some kind of exception.

Long story short, I voted for black sea. =D

I doubt that Thomas. I agree with everything Ranek says except I don't think Dark Mist needs the permission from the original artist. Mostly because he's not profiting from it.

I do like the fact that more people are making nice looking maps. For a long time flashy graphics were not in style around here. It was substance over style. There is nothing wrong with making a nice looking map but gameplay is always the most important thing.
