No, the British Empire was occupying the Canada Territory. Canada wasn't given independence until 1867. It was a British territory, and the British occupied it. There were no Canadians to fight.

First of all, Canada was given independence in 1931. Second of all, Canadians existed. That's like saying there are no Arlingtonians because Arlington does not have independence.

The Russian law bans saying anything good about being gay to anyone under 18, or in a place where a minor could be.

Its very vague about what counts as "non-traditional" or what counts as a "distorted notion."

It does not ban talking about gays, you are free to talk about them amongst adults whilst in private and you can criticise gays in public or in front of children.

Whilst the law is absolute bollocks, it is not dissimilar to one that existed in the UK until 2003 and is not nearly as bad as the anti-gay laws in many other countries so I don't know why Russia gets all the abuse.
The biggest political party where I live support brining in much worse laws, thankfully they won't get the chance.

Ireland could be the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage through a national referendum.

The vote is in just 5 days time, the opinion polls look good but Irish referendums are notoriously hard to predict.
