Today intolerance and extremism killed journalists, cartoonists and humorists...
Unarmed, harmless people, only guilty to speak their satirical hearts.

12 of them already dead, 5 badly wounded still fighting for their lives.

In my country. At our very doorstep.

May your god curse you, brainless barbarians.

Yes, today France bled. Yes, today we mourn.
But they should better remember :

WE ARE NOT AFRAID !

Basically what Thulk said. Some barbarian Algerians shot up some French, it's been the largest terrorist attack in France since 1961. It's a tragedy, but luckily not as bad as it could have been.

Unarmed, harmless people, only guilty to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

3674 of them already dead, many of them children

In some far away countries. At somebody else's very doorstep.

May our god curse us, brainless barbarians.

Yes, for years now Yemen, Pakistan and other countries bled. Yes, for years now, they mourn.

That's not terrorism, that's US bullying other states. But it's bad, yes. Also, not curse me, I am blessed with glory of god already. You can't buy glory of god, nowadays.

That is also terrorism. It doesn't make what happened in Paris any less awful though. We can deplore horrible acts without saying, "yes but this other act was worse". That's what torture apologists keep saying here in the US. "Waterboarding a few people isn't as bad as killing 3000 people." Fine that may be true, but it's irrelevant. One does not justify the other.

I mean, say you (Beren) insult me for being the head of a stupid, spamming clan. That doesn't give me the right to insult you for having a stupid name (your name is actually pretty cool).

P.S. Who armed quite a few of the terrorist groups in Afghanistan against the Soviets in the 1980's?

yes the USA promotes funds and uses militants all over the world. I wish more Americans would speak up for truth and freedom. What do the majority of Americans want? Free and mostly equal trading partners across the globe. But our Political Heros are not working for that, altho that is exactly what they say they are doing. remember the phrase "Dobulespeak" from 1984

double speak, double post. I also wish our Christian leaders would reach out to the Islamic religious leaders. People who truly love God and Allah dont want to kill. Is that message being preached there? Is it being preached here?

Sorry, you can't solve Islamic extremism by reaching out. Those Islamic leaders truly believe that they have a holy edict to kill the Christian leaders you suggest should reach out.

And a very, very disturbing percentage of Muslims are ok with that.

It's not PC to say anything other than 'only a very tiny minority of the Muslim population supports such acts', but research shows otherwise.

Fuck this. Now people are starting to bomb mosques and attacking muslims in the street. Muslims who had nothing whatsoever to do with this. What's disgusting is that Charlie Hebdo, though they often made fun of radical islam, was strongly anti-racist and opposed all form of islamophobia. And now the death of their finest artists is leaving the door open to the popular persecution of a whole population of muslims who are as european as I am and just want to live in fucking peace.

Makes me want to cry and puke at the same time. This is our 9/11. And the consequences will sadly go against everything Charlie Hebdo is standing for.

I'm gonna go back to reading my old magazines and cry a lot.

Edit :

Quite incredibly today, most writers, journalists and cartoonists here had the same opinion. Our friends died to make us laugh. We'll mourn their losses tomorrow. Today, for them, we HAVE to make fun of this, make fun of the dumbasses who did this, make fun of death itself. Today we laugh.

I'm going to try to give my slightly controversial opinion here.

First off, my condolences to the families of the killed journalists. Obviously the killing of anyone regardless of any circumstance is deplorable, and this was indeed a barbaric act, and should be condemned in the strongest manner.

However, I believe this satirist magazine has been making insulting cartoons depicting religious leaders, which brings me to my point.

Although in France you are entitled to speak your mind freely thanks to 'freedom of expression', you should still (always) exercise caution and tread lightly and remain polite in your opinions and with other people, especially when it comes to sensitive topics such as Religion. While many Christians in the West will not react in such an extreme manner because of an insult to Christianity, they cannot expect the same case for people in other areas, who are brought up under different religions, which have different practices, virtues and expectations, which deserves to be respected as well.

It is similar to going onto the streets, repeatedly insulting another person, then getting punched in the face. You can say that you were entitled to insult others because of your freedom of expression but I believe many would think that you deserved the attack simply because you were being rude in the first place.

This is also similar to 'The Interview' and the 'Sony hacks'. I find the movie deplorable, depicting a real, alive, controversial leader of the most unpredictable country on the planet, complete with his violent and fiery death, and then complaining when they retaliate because they don't like the movie.

Obviously punching someone or hacking computers compared to killing someone is completely different in scale. But I believe it is a similar scenario.

I'm not saying that these journalists deserved to be killed. My point is, I hope people will learn to understand that 'freedom of expression' is a right, it should be appreciated (since some countries still exercise censorship) and not abused.

Once again, my condolences to the families. If anyone believes that I am in the wrong, I am ready to be corrected.

I understand your opinion, and the horror and emotion of what just happened does make you think. And frankly I agree in general on the idea that provoking people and hurting their feelings, while it should never be forbidden, should be avoided by most journalists.

However Charlie Hebdo is not "most journals". Their creation as anti-establishment magazine is hard coded in their DNA. The goal of their journal is not to provide a "balanced and tactfull" humour. They shock, they insult, they make fun of everything and everyone, every religion, every massacre, everything. They had no limits, and that was who they were. Who they are, still. And their right to draw some incredibly dark and bordeline (over the line actually, well over it) cartoons is paramount. Voltaire said it better.

"I don't agree with your opinion, but I will fight to my last breath for your right to express it"

That's why we're all Charlie today.

However, I don't agree with people who say "extremist" killed them. Compared to their prophet Muhammad, these shooters are very mild.
Just like there is no such thing as "extreme nazi's" there is no such thing as "extreme moslims".

Muslims believe that Muhammad was God's messenger and that the example of his life, or Sunna, should be followed by all in order to merit heaven.
Just a few facts about the man that every muslims see as their great example:
  • Muhammad killed many Many people and many more died by Muhammad's order.
  • Muhammad had over 20 wives and even married a nine-year-old girl.
  • Muhammad owend manny (sex)slaves.
  • Muhammad enslaved manny children and women(and sold most=human trafficking and kept some for own use)
  • Muhammad said women were 1/2 as smart as men (Hadith 3:826; 2:541), that the majority in hell will be women (Had. 1:28,301; 2:161; 7:124), and that women could be mortgaged.

I don't mean to lessen the significance of the lives of Pakistanis, Yemenis, or others, but would you really stoop so low as to accuse someone of mourning the loss of their countrymen? I find what happened yesterday very saddening and disturbing, but you don't need to bring in another context once again about how the US is a hateful, thoughtless nation. Those thoughts, right or wrong, hold absolutely no relevance here. Please keep your spiteful, America-hating comments to your own threads, I see nothing wrong with a thread devoted to mourning the loss of innocents.

TO all others: This thread is not a place for debate, it is a place for mourning the loss of innocent journalists. Please keep your arguments to one of the other threads. That is all I ask.

My thoughts are with the friends and families of those lost.

I am pretty sure that you are oblivious to the relevance of my posting.
You are so simple minded that you don't even see the contradiction of your own post.

But since I know that you are just a brainwashed misinformed stereotype of your society, I know fully well that breastfeeding the relevance to you would not only require a two pages long explanation, but also that the outcome wouldn't be certain as well, since there is a good possibility that your lifelong indoctrination and bias would lead to rejecting any reason nonetheless.

So let me tell you only one thing. This is an open thread on an open forum and not some article on a moderated mainstream news site. And you are no moderator with any claims on what is happening here whatsoever, but just some low level punk acting important.
So if you want to spill your hypocrisy all over it, be my guest. But stop interfering with my expression of this free speech illusion you are so eagerly defending in your solidarity with Charlie.

Myhand,

You're so right and so wrong at the same time. How is it possible?

You show yourself as a troll by ignorance of what Charlie was. That would take an entire life to explain you why I guess. You just don't know when you have to remain silent.

The Charlie Hebdo guys were drawing for free speech. In that you're very welcome to give your view. You're even very interesting to read. Often.

Your first post was in the Charlie's spirit (somehow).

But what makes you boring is your propensity for not being funny but disrespectful to others (your second post). By others I mean Master Arc. Not Charlie Hebdo.

Charlie was funny. And was even more... This is what you miss and why you're off-topic today.

either way, I pray for the families of those killed in cold blood for their exercising the right of free expression under the french constitution. I also pray that these murderers don't get to live to a trial. they deserve nothing more than to be killed like the cowards they are. Honestly the world is falling to shit and its every bodies fault. Muslim extremists kill for their religion, expecting to convert the world or die trying, yet they mostly just die trying. If you ask me I think its time we cracked out the square bullets again and start killing terrorists that a way. cant really heal a gunshot wound from square bullet, they rip ya apart. those murderous bastards don't deserve better anyways.

Corto, I don't know Charlie Hebdo.
I am a great fan of the German satirical counterpart "Titanic" and the first thing they did, was making fun of the incident. They are also the ones putting things into perspective while the rest of the western mainstream media is running amok again, with people like Le Pen already crying for the death penalty in France or the living room racist movement PEGIDA in Germany feeling themselves justified.

I am fully aware of what a black day this has been, for a multitude of reasons, number one being innocent people dying. Beyond that people who I assume (I can only assume, since I don't really know Charlie) stood for what you said, an pluralistic, open and non racist non violent society, all the things I like to see myself standing for. People that formed the magazine that , if it was remotely like the german "Titanic" formed a pillar of democracy within the french society.
I am not oblivious to the fact that it has been a black day beyond that, lightening the fuses of islamists and islamophopes alike, both parties being pumped up by the incident and who will do anything to drive the wedge of alienation further into our most fragile societies. I am also aware that this will mark again a poster for coming "necessary sacrifises" of civic liberties we have to endure by the disconnected governments of ours, that only serve the needs of the financial and industrial elites and not the people.
Don't think I don't see that.
Don't think I wasn't shocked by the footage of the two gunmen that was all over the internet.
I was shocked.
But I was also shocked by the daily terror we don't have to see in the media, because our media has no interest in showing it to us and maybe there lies the difference between us. The countless innocents dying daily by the hands of illegal state actions with the drones being only one example of many. Those people have their "Charlie Hebdo" incident every fucking day.

So my intention wasn't to make fun of it. My intention was an attempt of a little bit of perspective.

the death penalty is no step backwards, no mans taxes should go to feed and clothe murderers better than the poor of the nation eat and dress. you want them in jail? fine, how about you throw them in some dank dark hole in the ground and give them stale bread and water. thats jail.
