Surely with everyone starting at 100 rating, everyone should effectively be matched at random? No?

That's definitely not what's happening. I can basically guarantee that the new ladder is currently matching people based on their previous peak ratings.

My first 5 games are vs Tear-Z, Octane, Gak Again, Jacob The Restless, and ilija - all 5 are members of top clans.

Octane has been matched vs myself, AI, Bonsai, and Andreas.

Ai has been matched vs Octane, mod, Andreas, Rufus, and Farah.

This trend continues for everyone I looked at. Currently it is a SIGNIFICANT advantage to join on an account with no ladder history than it is to join on an account that once had a high bayeselo rating.

The only field the matchmaking uses is each player's current rating. Any correlation you see to past ratings is entirely in your head or a coincidence.

However, the players might be converted to the new rating system top down?

So that would result in top players getting matched with top players, cause at the time of matchmaking only they were available?

Or are they pulled randomly from the DB?

It might only be doing it for the initial matches, where everyone is rated 100, but I really highly doubt that THIS is completely random.

AI, Rufus, Farah, mod, Octane, and Crazy ALL hold the 1v1 ladder trophy.

There's too many people on the ladder for matchmaking like this to be random. It's also too consistently occurring with lots of different players matches.

most of these players freshly joined the ladder cause it finally got an update, so it is indeed no coincidence.

So the real pattern is merely that games created before the reset continued to count towards players game limit, so people already on the ladder didn't have open games, only the new joiners did. The new joiners skewed hard towards being players who had previously played the ladder and left due to a dislike of bayeselo.

There is no major disadvantage to losing a couple of games when entering the ladder. It has now a normal ELO.
