Even ancient names are mostly from 1000-3000 BCE (excluding pre Hittites civilizations like Göbeklitepe) but sure, I also know the ancient name of some of those places

Yeah there's really not a good answer when it comes to naming and designing most of these places. I'm mostly going by geographical features, cutting territories out of watershed areas and rivers.

Yeah, good call. I guess otherwise you'd probably use the oldest name available? Or maybe tribe names? Archaeological sites?
